***WORLD MAP***

***Chapter Recaps***

In the world of Crescent City, there are four powerful houses, each representing different beings and forces aligned under ancient gods. These houses form a foundational part of the society’s structure in Midgard, created in 33 V.E. by the Imperial Senate in the Eternal City. Here’s a look at each house and the beings they encompass:

1. House of Earth and Blood

  • Patron DeityCthona (Goddess of Earth and Life) and Luna (Goddess of the Moon) for some.
  • Inhabitants: Includes shifters (like wolves and other animal forms), humanswitches, ordinary animals, and many others who share a connection to the earth.
  • Purpose: Represents the bond with nature, bloodlines, and the living aspects of the earth.

2. House of Sky and Breath

  • Patron DeitySolas (God of Light) and, occasionally, Luna for some.
  • Inhabitants: Primarily Malakim (angels), Faeelementalssprites, and others blessed by Solas, though some sprites lost their status after betraying the house during the Fall.
  • Purpose: Embodies the power of the sky, wind, and celestial influences. This house includes beings connected to light, breath, and air.

3. House of Many Waters

  • Patron DeityOgenas (Goddess of Waters)
  • InhabitantsRiver-spiritsmer (mermaids and similar creatures), water beastsnymphskelpies, and nøkks (water spirits).
  • Purpose: Reflects the domain of water, oceans, rivers, and all aquatic elements of life, along with beings uniquely connected to the depths and mysteries of the seas.

4. House of Flame and Shadow

  • Purpose: Represents the darker forces of magic, shadow, death, and chaos. It is the house of those connected to fire and the mysteries of the afterlife.

Note on Sprites: Once part of the House of Sky and Breath, sprites lost their status as punishment for their role in the Fall, the event that led to the fall of the Vanir civilization. They are now considered "Lowers," a lower social standing that many sprites resent.

These four houses govern all life in Midgard and set the tone for the alliances, conflicts, and mystical hierarchy that define the world of Crescent City.

PART 1 THE CHASM

CHAPTER 1 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In House of Sky and Breath, the narrative begins with a vibrant atmosphere at the Crescent City Ballet, where Bryce Quinlan finds herself amidst a packed theater, filled with anticipation for the performance featuring her friend, Juniper Andromeda. The crowd's reverence and admiration for Juniper highlight the recent healing of the city, a monumental feat accomplished by Bryce herself. However, this act of salvation carries a heavy weight: the memories of those who perished during the battle against the Asteri linger, creating a bittersweet backdrop to the evening.

As Bryce interacts with her parents, Ember and Randall, she navigates their concern for her well-being, her job at the Fae Archives, and her relationship with Hunt Athalar. The dialogue between them is filled with the warmth and tension of family dynamics, revealing Ember's protective instincts and Bryce's struggle for independence. Despite her mother's scrutiny, Bryce finds comfort in her bond with Hunt, whose presence ignites a mix of attraction and frustration due to their mutually agreed-upon delay in pursuing a romantic relationship.

The tension escalates when the audience's attention turns toward Bryce, drawing unwanted scrutiny due to her Starborn heritage. The star-shaped mark on her chest, a symbol of her power, becomes a focal point of judgment, particularly among the Fae nobility. Yet, Hunt’s unwavering support and the lighthearted banter they share provide a reprieve from the mounting pressure.

As the performance begins, the stage transforms into a world of beauty and artistry, a stark contrast to the challenges Bryce faces. Through it all, the theme of identity, acceptance, and the weight of heritage echoes throughout the narrative, setting the stage for the unfolding drama in both Bryce's personal life and the broader conflict against the Asteri.

CHAPTER 2 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are at a party, where Bryce is feeling conflicted about the carefree atmosphere around them. While Hunt is calm and collected, Bryce is internally battling with her emotions. She wants to feel normal and have fun but also feels guilty because of the horrors and tragedies she’s witnessed. She is particularly upset that many of the partygoers seem oblivious to the pain and suffering going on in the world. She voices these concerns to Hunt, asking if the party disgusts him, knowing he's seen the dark side of life.

Hunt reassures her that the party doesn't bother him, and he explains that people sometimes need moments of release and joy to feel alive again, especially after loss. Bryce acknowledges this but is still struggling with the idea of enjoying herself, fearing that doing so would somehow jinx her happiness. Hunt empathizes, telling her it takes time to adjust to feeling safe and happy, something he himself is still learning after his tumultuous past.

Amid their conversation, Hunt receives an important email from Isaiah, revealing that new Archangels have been chosen to replace Micah and Sandriel, and one of them is a mysterious figure named Celestina. She has a small territory under her command and is considered a figurehead. Despite her unremarkable past, her promotion raises suspicion, and Hunt worries about the Asteri's intentions. There’s a lot of uncertainty about her role, and it’s unclear if she will be a puppet or a genuine force for change.

Bryce, always determined to protect those she cares about, offers Hunt reassurance. She reminds him that he’s free to choose his own path, and he doesn’t need to serve anyone he doesn’t want to. Despite her optimism, Hunt remains uneasy about Celestina’s appointment and the potential consequences it might bring.

As the chapter ends, the conversation shifts to lighter moments, with Bryce joking about being the "Super Powerful and Special Magic Starborn Princess" as a playful way of asserting her strength. Hunt, though amused, remains focused on the underlying tension regarding the Asteri and their manipulations.

CHAPTER 3 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn Danaan, deeply intoxicated and high on mirthroot, finds himself in an intimate situation with a faun female he barely knows. He’s enjoying the moment, reveling in the pleasure of the encounter, despite the haze clouding his mind. In the midst of his passion, however, he remembers his betrothal to Hypaxia Enador, the Queen of the Valbaran Witches, and the weight of his upcoming commitment. Although their relationship hasn't progressed much, Ruhn is aware that he is still bound to her, despite enjoying his fleeting moments of freedom.

Just as the situation seems to reach its peak, Ruhn's night is interrupted by his friend Tristan Flynn, who barges into his room and informs him that something is amiss downstairs. A strange anomaly has been detected by their security system—a disturbance in the form of an aura, which seems to be circling their house, possibly surveilling them. Ruhn, though still under the influence, grabs his weapon, ready for action.

As Ruhn descends the stairs, he senses something is wrong—there is an ominous presence in the air, and the lights flicker. Suddenly, a dark figure appears at the front door, and Ruhn realizes it's not a portal to Hel, as he first thought, but something far more familiar and dangerous. The star-shaped scar on Bryce’s arm begins to glow, hinting at a deeper power. Ruhn knows that this disturbance marks a turning point in the night, and the arrival of a golden-haired Fae male from the shadows signals that things are about to escalate. The calm party atmosphere quickly shifts to one of impending danger and uncertainty.

CHAPTER 4 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In Chapter 4 of House of Earth and Blood, Bryce Quinlan is caught in a tense moment at a party when a mysterious Fae male appears. His arrival causes the revelers to freeze, and the music to abruptly stop, creating a charged atmosphere. This stranger, Cormac, a member of the Avallen Fae, confronts Bryce, declaring that he is her cousin and that he has come to claim her as his bride, much to her shock and dismay.

The tension escalates as Bryce’s brother, Ruhn, and his friends stand protectively around her. Cormac reveals his royal heritage, stating that both the Autumn King (Bryce's father) and the High King of the Avallen Fae have decreed their union. Bryce, however, vehemently rejects him, asserting that she’s not available and isn’t interested in any arranged marriage.

Despite the group's tense standoff, Cormac remains unfazed and mocks them, claiming that the Starsword, the legendary weapon of the Fae, “sings” for him too. This intensifies the animosity between Cormac and Ruhn, who resents Cormac's smug attitude and intrusion. As Cormac leaves, he warns Bryce that the union has been set and that he will see her at the altar.

After his departure, the party atmosphere shatters, and Bryce quickly shifts into damage-control mode, deciding to take a train the next morning to escape the fallout and the looming threat of Cormac. She confides in Hunt, the angelic bodyguard, and her allies, including Fury and Juniper, about her next steps and the challenges of keeping her family, especially her mother, from discovering the threat. However, the group is aware that it may be impossible to keep this from them for long.

As the chapter closes, Bryce’s mind races with uncertainty about her future, the engagement forced upon her, and the power dynamics at play. The situation has clearly set the stage for a larger conflict surrounding Bryce’s heritage and the dangerous people trying to control her life.

CHAPTER 5 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Tharion Ketos, a powerful mer and loyal subject of the River Queen, finds himself in a dire situation after angering the Queen by making her daughter cry. As punishment, he’s sent on a treacherous expedition in the icy, stormy waters of the Haldren Sea, far from his familiar territory. Instead of relaxing by the warm shores of Istros, he’s stuck aboard a small, uncomfortable fishing vessel, battling fierce waves and sub-zero temperatures.

The task at hand is grim: to recover the body of a thunderbird Vanir named Sofie Renast, who was reportedly bound with lead blocks and tossed into the sea. His queen believes Sofie’s body—despite being at the bottom of the ocean for two weeks—might still hold valuable intel or weapons, and insists that Tharion find her. He’s tasked with finding her remains, though he suspects Sofie’s body has likely been destroyed by the pressure of the deep sea.

As Tharion braves the bitter cold and storm, he’s joined by a determined dolphin shifter captain and her crew. Using a submersible, they begin their search for the body. The submersible’s camera feed provides blurry, murky images of the seafloor, but after hours of searching, they finally locate the lead blocks. However, the chains that once held Sofie’s body are empty, suggesting the body had either been eaten by sea creatures or exploded due to the pressure.

Tharion reports back to his queen, relaying the grim findings. He informs her that no body was found, but the chains had been unlocked, hinting at the possibility that Sofie might have freed herself before being dumped into the sea. His queen, unimpressed by the lack of results, orders him to continue searching. She also reveals her suspicion that Sofie may still be alive, and that her brother, Emile Renast, might also be involved. She believes finding him could lead them to Sofie.

Tharion, troubled by his queen’s cryptic demands, prepares to continue the search, though he has no idea what the River Queen truly wants with Sofie and her brother. Regardless, he agrees to the mission, knowing the Queen’s wrath is far worse than the unknown dangers of the hunt.

CHAPTER 6 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce is urgently searching through the cabinet under her sink, throwing aside hair products, old makeup palettes, and unused blow-dryers, as she tries to locate a first aid kit. Syrinx, her golden-furred chimera, stands by her side, acting as if he's been helpful. She eventually finds the white first aid kit, but as she inspects its contents, she questions whether the medical supplies have expired, with Syrinx humorously shrugging off her concern.

In the great room, Hunt is crouched beside Ithan, who’s been injured and is laying on the coffee table. Ithan has regained consciousness, but his injuries are severe, his face bruised and swollen beyond recognition. Despite his injuries, Ithan downplays the situation, claiming it's not as bad as it seems. Bryce prepares to treat his wounds, but she’s clearly disturbed by the sight of him, noting that she’s not sure where to begin with his extensive injuries.

While Bryce starts cleaning Ithan’s wounds, Hunt watches quietly. They briefly discuss Ithan’s injuries, which appear to be from claws, and speculate about his fractured ribs and broken arm. Ithan doesn’t want to acknowledge the full extent of his injuries, trying to minimize them despite the evidence. His pride and stubbornness shine through in his resistance to Bryce’s care.

The tension builds when Bryce asks Ithan why he’s here, to which he responds that he didn’t ask to be brought here; Perry, the Omega of his pack, arranged it. He reluctantly admits that his injuries were caused by Sabine and her pack after he spoke out in an interview about the events from the previous spring. Ithan defended Bryce in the article, which caused trouble with Sabine. Sabine, who’s a City Head, doesn’t take kindly to Ithan’s remarks and takes drastic action against him. Ithan’s response reveals his internal conflict, as he is still loyal to Bryce, despite their fractured relationship.

Bryce feels a mix of anger and empathy. She knows Ithan well from their past, having once been close friends. But now, he’s a stranger to her, and the emotional distance is palpable. The chapter explores their shared history, with Bryce reflecting on the days when Ithan was a part of her life, before everything changed after the attack and the death of Danika.

Ithan briefly explains that he’s been kicked out by Sabine and his pack for his loyalty to Bryce and his defense of her in the article. Bryce offers to let him stay for the night, despite her internal discomfort. She arranges for him to sleep in her room, not trusting the idea of him being left unguarded, especially given the tension with Sabine and Amelie. Hunt, however, is not thrilled by Ithan’s presence, and a subtle jealousy simmers beneath his actions as he begrudgingly agrees to let Ithan stay. The chapter ends with a mix of unresolved tension between Bryce and Ithan, and a hint of the emotional complexities that remain between them.

The chapter also dives into the nuances of Bryce’s relationships—her care for Ithan, despite the distance that has grown between them, and the shifting dynamics with Hunt, who remains protective of her. Through this chapter, the reader witnesses Bryce’s struggle between her past with Ithan and the present, her commitment to her own safety, and the delicate balance of trust between her, Ithan, and Hunt.

CHAPTER 7 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

The chapter opens in the study of the Autumn King, where Ruhn is pacing furiously, clearly upset. The grand clock chimes two in the morning as he vents his frustration, claiming that the situation he’s in is “bullshit.” The Autumn King, however, remains silent, absorbed in his experiments. Cormac, who’s lounging near the fireplace, mocks Ruhn, suggesting that his anger might be linked to feeling protective of his sister, Bryce.

Ignoring Cormac’s taunts, Ruhn continues to argue with his father, stating that they live in a modern world where there are legal avenues to challenge the forced marriage to Bryce. He argues that courts might be sympathetic to protecting Fae females' rights. But the Autumn King is unmoved, insisting that Bryce will willingly marry Prince Cormac, and that Ruhn himself will marry Hypaxia, a necromancer from a royal bloodline.

The conversation takes a turn when Cormac reveals that Hypaxia’s background is problematic due to her half-sister, the Hind, and the necromancy that runs in her bloodline. The Autumn King dismisses this as irrelevant, insisting that Ruhn will marry Hypaxia, while Cormac will marry Bryce. Ruhn objects, reminding them that Bryce is in a relationship with Athalar (Hunt), and Cormac can’t just come between them.

The Autumn King reveals his true motivations: Bryce’s value lies in her Starborn lineage, which could benefit both royal houses. He believes she is a powerful heir, and the marriage to Cormac is meant to strengthen their bloodlines. This enrages Ruhn, who realizes that his father views Bryce as nothing more than a breeding tool to preserve royal power. Ruhn's frustration builds, as he asks why his father is so fixated on Bryce. The Autumn King’s cold reply is that the future of their bloodline is at stake.

The conversation escalates, and Cormac taunts Ruhn about the supposed disgrace of the union. Ruhn’s anger boils over as he defends Bryce, telling them they need her more than she needs them. The tension between the brothers grows as they exchange verbal jabs. Cormac even suggests a twisted idea of old traditions, hinting at incest to maintain blood purity, which causes Ruhn to snap and demand that Cormac leave.

When Cormac finally exits, the weight of his words linger in Ruhn’s mind. Cormac had implied that both of them were destined to become kings, but Ruhn knows that his future is uncertain, especially with the ominous prophecy from the Oracle hanging over him. The chapter closes with Ruhn confronting his father, asking why he’s doing this. His father’s cold response cuts deep, claiming that Cormac is the son he always wanted, while Ruhn is just a burden.

The chapter showcases the brutal dynamics between Ruhn and his father, and the complex web of power, politics, and personal vendettas surrounding Bryce’s forced marriage. Ruhn’s frustration and internal conflict continue to build, as he realizes the weight of his role in this power struggle.

CHAPTER 8 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In Chapter 8, Hunt and Bryce share a quiet morning as he prepares for an important day. Bryce teases Hunt about the city’s preparations for the appointment of a new Governor, suggesting that it’s a big event. She mentions her parents’ visit, noting her mother’s likely reaction to their engagement, with a bet on whether she’ll call to complain before noon. Bryce, playful yet serious, reassures Hunt that she’ll back him up if needed, especially when it comes to dealing with Archangels like Celestina. There’s a clear bond between them as Hunt expresses his appreciation for her loyalty.

As they chat, Ithan, a familiar friend, joins the scene. He’s recovering from injuries and seems to be bonding with Bryce and Hunt. The two men share some banter about their past, referencing college days and drunken antics. Ithan’s backstory with Bryce is revealed—he was a close friend of hers, and his connection to her adds some tension to the dynamics. Hunt, still on edge, warns Ithan to stay away from Bryce if he causes trouble, but Ithan reveals a bit of vulnerability by admitting how much Bryce means to him.

The scene transitions to Bryce at work in the Fae Archives, where the bustle of daily life contrasts with her internal turmoil. Her grief over Lehabah’s death still lingers, and she grapples with the guilt of not being able to save her friend. Bryce calls Jesiba, a former ally, for advice regarding a historical artifact. Their conversation shifts to the strained relationship between Bryce and her father, the Autumn King, who is now pushing her toward an unwanted engagement. Bryce, still trying to come to terms with her newfound power, brushes off her father’s motives, but Jesiba suggests that the King might be testing her reaction to his control.

As Bryce reflects on her situation, she wonders about the value of her Starborn power and the Horn in her back, contemplating her father’s intentions and the future. Despite the weight of her responsibilities, she remains uncertain about how to navigate the complexities of her life.

CHAPTER 9 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, the tension between Bryce and Cormac grows as he continues to insist that their union is "predestined," claiming the Oracle of Avallen foretold that they would bring prosperity to their people. Bryce, however, rejects this and refuses to accept him as her betrothed, emphasizing that her father, the Autumn King, has no place in her life, and neither does Cormac. She firmly stands her ground, even slamming the door in his face after he suggests she should act like the immortal, Starborn being she is now.

Meanwhile, Hunt and Bryce share a lighthearted moment over the phone, with Hunt teasing Bryce about a photo he received during a crime scene briefing. However, the conversation takes a serious turn when Bryce’s star begins to glow, a sign of an impending encounter. She is interrupted by Cormac's arrival, and their tense exchange continues.

At the same time, Hunt is dealing with a more professional situation, meeting Celestina, the new Governor. Unlike Micah, Celestina presents herself as more compassionate, wanting to work alongside Hunt, Naomi, and Isaiah as partners, rather than forcing subservience. Despite her softer approach, Hunt remains skeptical, recalling past trauma under Micah’s rule and the horrors of his past life as a slave. While Celestina seems sincere, Hunt is wary of her intentions, and the chapter leaves a lingering question about whether she truly seeks a partnership or has ulterior motives.

The chapter juxtaposes Bryce’s defiance against Cormac’s arrogance and Hunt’s struggle to trust the new Governor, setting the stage for further conflict.

CHAPTER 10 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

The chapter opens with a tense moment in the Governor's office as Hunt and his companions observe two new arrivals: Baxian, the Helhound, and Pollux. Baxian, a tall, dark-haired angel, has a prominent scar across his neck, a mark Hunt had given him thirty years ago. Baxian’s intense, simmering eyes meet Hunt's, while Pollux, the sadistic leader of Sandriel’s triarii, sizes up the group with a twisted pleasure. The chapter escalates when Hunt, overcome by anger, attacks Pollux, leaping from his chair to tackle him to the floor.

Meanwhile, Ithan Holstrom is alone in Bryce’s apartment, tending to his wounds from a brutal fight with Sabine. As he looks at his reflection in the mirror, he shifts into his wolf form and is reminded of the deep emotional wound he’s suffered, having been cast out from his pack. His loneliness is palpable, and when he receives a message from Perry Ravenscroft, he hesitates before replying affirmatively. He contemplates the loneliness of a wolf without a pack and reflects on Bryce’s own similar struggles.

As the narrative shifts back to Bryce, she visits Hunt, who is locked in a cell. Despite his injuries, he brushes off her concern, and the two banter back and forth. Pollux taunts Bryce, attempting to provoke her with sexist remarks. She retorts with sharp wit and sarcasm, standing her ground despite the threat he poses. When Pollux tries to lunge at her, Bryce’s power flares, forcing him to retreat. This exchange highlights the tension between Bryce and Pollux, with Hunt offering a small but proud smile at her defiance.

The scene concludes with the arrival of Baxian, who casually comments on the death of Micah, leaving Bryce momentarily speechless. Hunt, seemingly in good spirits despite his injuries, pleads for Bryce to take him home, while Pollux remains bitter in his cell. As Bryce manages to get Hunt released, she’s reminded of the complex dynamics at play in this world. The chapter ends with a moment of tension between Bryce and Celestina, who oversees the situation with a stern, no-nonsense approach.

CHAPTER 11 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Tharion is deeply immersed in his work for the River Queen, particularly in investigating Sofie Renast's disappearance. Although he had no interest in the world of intelligence or espionage, his ability to charm people and navigate sensitive situations led him into this unexpected role. He’s now tasked with finding clues that could reveal Sofie’s whereabouts.

Using a specialized system set up by Declan Emmet, Tharion hacks into Sofie’s emails and uncovers cryptic communications with a mysterious figure, "BansheeFan56." Through their exchanges, Tharion discovers references to "Dusk’s Truth" and "Project Thurr," but both terms remain elusive. A particularly intriguing lead is an unfinished email where Sofie had mentioned passing along information to someone in Lunathion, a city known for its hidden refuge. Tharion connects these details to Sofie’s brother, Emile, speculating that Sofie may have been hiding him, particularly after the tragedy involving her death.

Further investigation reveals that the name "Danika Fendyr" is tied to Sofie’s mysterious contacts, leading Tharion to believe that there might be a deeper connection between these individuals and the River Queen's operations. His thoughts turn to the marshes, where a boat was discovered with an item belonging to Emile, hinting that he might be en route to reunite with his sister.

As Tharion pursues this lead, he finds a disturbing scene in the Nelthian Marshes—evidence of a struggle involving a human arm, with signs of a sobek bite. The sight of blood and the violent nature of the scene suggest that Emile may not be the only one in danger, and Tharion braces himself for what might come next in his search.

The chapter builds suspense and mystery around the characters, highlighting Tharion's duality as a merfolk who is torn between his responsibilities and his growing curiosity about the fate of Sofie and Emile. The cryptic clues left behind propel Tharion further into a dangerous and murky investigation, where the true stakes remain unclear.

CHAPTER 12 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In Chapter 12 of House of Earth and Blood, Bryce is confronted with a shocking revelation from Tharion, a mer from the River Queen’s court, who reveals that Danika and Sofie might have been involved with the rebels. Tharion shares details about emails exchanged between Danika and Sofie, hinting at a deeper connection to the rebel activity. Tharion also mentions a child named Emile, who is in danger of being caught by the Asteri, the powerful rulers of the world. This information pushes Bryce into action, despite the warnings from Hunt, Tharion, and Ruhn to stay away from the situation for her own safety.

Bryce, however, is determined to help Emile, feeling an overwhelming need to protect him, even though Tharion insists that the Asteri will go to great lengths to capture the child. Tharion’s warnings are filled with urgency, but Bryce’s loyalty to Danika and her sense of justice override her concerns. She begins to suspect that Danika may have known more than she let on about the rebellion, but she’s unwilling to accept that her friend might have been involved in dangerous activities.

The tension rises as Tharion desperately asks Bryce to help find Emile before the Asteri do. He implies that the River Queen may offer protection to the child, but Bryce is cautious of his motives, unsure whether she can fully trust him. With Emile’s safety hanging in the balance, Bryce decides to take action and agrees to help, despite the potential risks involved.

Meanwhile, Bryce contemplates reaching out to Fury for assistance in tracking down any rebel hideouts Danika might have used. However, she hesitates to disturb Fury on her date night, deciding to wait until the morning to make contact. As the chapter ends, Bryce is left grappling with the weight of her decision and the dangerous path she’s about to embark on. The stakes are higher than ever, and the secrets surrounding Danika’s life and the rebel movement continue to unravel, leaving Bryce with more questions than answers.

CHAPTER 13 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In Chapter 13, Bryce is struggling to navigate the complexities of her feelings toward Hunt and the fallout from her recent engagements. She barely sleeps, trying to ignore the fact that Hunt is lying next to her, but she can't escape the reality of his presence. When she wakes up with a headache and puffy eyes, she faces her mom’s phone call, which brings a wave of tension. Ember's calm voice soon shifts into concern about Bryce’s supposed engagement to Prince Cormac, leading to a heated conversation. Bryce tries to deflect her mother's questions and set the record straight, but her frustration and anger boil over as she asserts her independence. She tells her mom in no uncertain terms to stay out of her business, especially concerning the false engagement.

Amidst this conversation, Hunt and Ithan watch, with Hunt clearly bothered by the tension. Once the call ends, Bryce and Hunt have an uneasy moment, where she finally admits that she didn't tell him about Cormac's visit to the archives, which causes Hunt to express concern. As they continue to deal with Cormac’s manipulation and the dynamics around them, Bryce assures him that their relationship isn’t a simple matter of territorial jealousy but a deeper, more complicated bond. They both express their desire to keep their communication open and make sure they're on the same page, particularly regarding the challenges they face together.

Later, Bryce heads off to meet Fury, and while walking through the city, she feels a mix of nostalgia and longing for her past as a dancer. Her conversation with Juniper highlights her quiet yearning for the performance world she left behind, but she suppresses it, focusing instead on the present. The chapter ends with an acknowledgment of the tension and undercurrents running between Bryce and those around her, setting the stage for deeper conflicts ahead.

CHAPTER 14 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

The chapter begins with Hunt and Isaiah observing a sparring session in the Comitium’s rooftop training area, where the heat is intense, and Hunt is trying to focus on the fight while resisting the urge to be distracted by the scorching temperatures. The sparring match is between a female and a male soldier, where the male, despite being slower, has superior strength. Hunt and Isaiah both bet on the male's victory, but Isaiah notes that the real question is whether they will end up in war.

Hunt is troubled, his thoughts heavy with a recent conversation with Bryce, which he cannot fully process. The memory of past battles and a haunting argument with Isaiah still linger. Isaiah’s words from years ago echo in Hunt’s mind: "We fly into slaughter. We have no allies, no route of retreat—you two are going to kill us all!" Despite the inner turmoil, Hunt tries to focus on the sparring, where the female soldier surprises them by knocking the male down with a powerful blow.

The chapter shifts focus to Hunt’s complex relationships, especially with Baxian. The two exchange tense words, with Baxian challenging Hunt’s desire for a simpler life. Their conversation reveals that Baxian had little choice in serving Sandriel, much like Hunt, despite the animosity between them. Hunt’s resentment towards Baxian grows when Baxian taunts him about his relationship with Bryce, calling her a "girlfriend" and mocking Hunt’s need for money.

Hunt is then tasked with working alongside Baxian to help him adjust to life in Valbara, though Hunt is deeply resistant to the idea. The conversation turns to Pollux, who is upset about being separated from Lidia Cervos, aka the Hind, and the complex dynamics within their team.

Meanwhile, Tharion arrives at Bryce's apartment, feeling out of place and frustrated about his inability to afford a place in the Upper City. He’s greeted by Ithan, Bryce's friend, and a brief, awkward exchange follows as Tharion jokes about their relationship with Bryce, revealing that he and Bryce have a playful dynamic about each other’s personal belongings. The chapter ends with Tharion reflecting on his unusual position in the world, especially as it pertains to his complicated relationships with others.

CHAPTER 15 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn meets Bryce outside the Fae Archives amidst the bustling crowds of Five Roses. While the streets are crowded with Fae, shifters, and draki, Bryce dons a sunball cap and sunglasses to avoid attention. Ruhn, wary of standing out, is not interested in wearing the same disguise, but Bryce insists on it to avoid the constant gawking. She explains that she asked him to walk her home because Tharion is grilling Ithan back at the house, a fact that pleases Ruhn.

As they walk through the crowded streets of Crescent City, Bryce mentions that she has something to discuss with him—something too sensitive for phones or messages. She reveals that Fury told her Danika was a "bloodhound," a term Ruhn recognizes, and Bryce wants to know if it relates to Danika’s connection with Sofie. Ruhn speculates that Danika was powerful enough on her own, regardless of any special abilities, and suggests that Sofie could have reached out to her for other reasons. Bryce wonders if Sofie thought Danika might be able to help free her brother Emile from Kavalla. The conversation shifts toward Bryce’s growing concerns about the secretive nature of her past and what Sofie may have known about Danika.

When they reach her apartment, Bryce is visibly uneasy as they enter. Ithan, who is sitting with Tharion, casually mentions her cat, a white creature with blue eyes, which seems harmless until Ruhn senses something off. Bryce tenses, and Ruhn's instincts scream to defend. When the creature's presence intensifies, Bryce reveals that it’s not a cat—it’s Aidas, the Prince of the Chasm, who has appeared in his true form.

Hunt arrives just in time to witness the tense standoff, his lightning crackling. Aidas confronts Bryce, revealing that he remembers the last Starborn Queen, Theia, and her powers, suggesting that Bryce has inherited not just her light, but possibly her other abilities as well. The conversation then turns to the past, with Aidas revealing shocking truths about Bryce’s lineage, including the dark history of her ancestors.

Aidas claims that Pelias, the so-called first Starborn Prince, was an impostor who killed Theia and stole her blade, the Starsword, which now belongs to Bryce’s family. He explains that Pelias' actions, including forcing himself on Helena, Theia’s daughter, tainted the bloodline. Aidas then admits he was too late to stop Pelias but vowed to wipe him out and prevent history from repeating itself.

Bryce, shaken by these revelations, presses Aidas on his intentions. Aidas warns her about the ongoing war and her role in it, suggesting she needs to decide where she stands in the fight. The chapter closes with a palpable tension in the room as each character processes the new revelations and their implications for the future.

CHAPTER 16 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In Chapter 16 of House of Earth and Blood, the tension rises as Cormac Donnall, the Avallen Prince, confronts Bryce and her group, demanding answers about Sofie Renast. Ruhn, Bryce’s brother, and their cousin, Ithan, try to piece together who Cormac is and his intentions. The conversation gets heated, with Cormac threatening them and Bryce pushing back, trying to understand his connection to Sofie. She also suspects that Cormac’s arrival might be due to Aidas’s interference.

As the conversation unfolds, Cormac reveals that he was once close to Sofie, and after her death, he made a promise to protect her brother, Emile Renast, whom Pippa Spetsos, an Ophion agent, is after. He explains how Pippa’s ruthless Lightfall soldiers massacred Vanir children and their families, and how Emile, a powerful weapon, fled from her to avoid being turned into a weapon for the Asteri. Cormac is here not only to find Emile but also to prevent him from falling into Ophion’s hands.

Tharion, the mer Captain of Intelligence, joins in and reveals he was sent to confirm Sofie’s death and track Emile as well. He is cautious of Cormac’s motives but acknowledges the shared goal. The group learns that Sofie had been gathering intel on the Asteri before she died, which may have played a role in her murder. Cormac’s sudden appearance and his admission of involvement with Ophion, despite being opposed to the Asteri’s brutal actions, raise more questions. Bryce is skeptical but agrees to work together to find Emile, even as she remains wary of Cormac’s past.

Despite the animosity, Cormac’s behavior softens a bit when he realizes Bryce is serious about protecting Emile. The chapter concludes with Bryce asking about the Hind’s role in Sofie’s death, hinting at deeper secrets and political intrigue involving the Asteri, Ophion, and the River Queen.Cormac, seeking to leverage Bryce's abilities and connections, hints at a deeper, more dangerous plot involving Emile and a mysterious piece of war-changing intel Sofie had. Cormac’s manipulation and the tension around his marriage proposal highlight his ambition, as he plays the role of a prince with dangerous alliances. His obsession with accessing Bryce’s Starborn powers seems to be at the heart of his motivations, while Bryce counters with her own terms, using wit and threat to maneuver the situation.

Bryce’s casual mention of the marriage ending only when it suits her, and her reference to Aidas bringing Cormac to her, hints at a larger strategy at play—she’s no stranger to using the people around her for leverage, especially when dealing with figures like Cormac. Her deal to find Emile and learn the intel while negotiating for control over her engagement is classic Bryce: always a step ahead.

As tensions rise, the group grapples with trust, betrayal, and the stakes of dealing with such powerful and calculating forces. The potential for conflict remains high, with Bryce's manipulation and Cormac's hard bargain setting the stage for complex alliances and dangerous outcomes ahead.

CHAPTER 17 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce feels the weight of the events that just unfolded. After the revelation of a dangerous bomb being dropped into their lives, she is determined to return to work, despite the turmoil surrounding her. She’s trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy, though her thoughts remain heavy with the gravity of the situation. Hunt follows her silently, understanding her need for space, but his concern for her is evident.

As Bryce reflects on the potential connections between Sofie, Danika, and the mysterious Lightfall squadron, the group discusses various possible threats and the intel they might uncover. Tensions run high as they agree to keep things quiet—any leaks could be disastrous. Bryce is still haunted by the lingering presence of Cormac and his secrets. Meanwhile, she’s determined to continue searching for answers, even if it means risking more than she bargained for.

The weight of what they’re about to face settles heavily on Hunt, who is overwhelmed by the reminder of the destruction he’s witnessed in past wars. The truth about Sofie, Emile, and the deadly Asteri looms large, and Bryce becomes resolute about uncovering the secrets she feels are worth the risk, even if it means standing up to powerful forces. She also doesn’t want to leave Emile—a young, innocent boy—caught in the crossfire of a deadly game that neither of them can control.

In a quiet, intimate moment, Bryce and Hunt share a deep connection, discussing their fears and desires. Bryce expresses a longing to move forward, refusing to wait for some future moment. But the danger of their situation pulls them back, as they’re reminded that her engagement to Cormac still serves as a public ruse, keeping them both bound in a web of lies for survival.

The chapter ends with tension, both emotional and physical, as they struggle with their roles in this perilous game while their undeniable attraction to each other adds layers of complexity.

CHAPTER 18 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ithan feels overwhelmed as he processes the complicated day. Tharion offers him a drink and shares a shocking revelation about Bryce's actions during the Summit. He reveals that Hunt killed Archangel Sandriel after she threatened Bryce, and Bryce killed Micah after he boasted about killing Danika and the Pack of Devils. Ithan is shaken by the truth, especially about Micah's death, and struggles with his feelings, especially towards Sabine and the rest of the Den who didn't share this information with him.

Tharion advises Ithan to act quickly, as strange things seem to be happening with fate nudging him toward dangerous paths. Tharion then leaves, hinting at a secret mission, and Ithan, still processing, decides to search Bryce’s apartment. He finds Danika’s sword and reflects on past memories, ultimately taking the sword for a sparring session to release his tension. When Bryce unexpectedly returns, she finds him practicing with the sword, leading to an awkward moment.

In a different part of the world, Ruhn deals with the revelation that Cormac, a rebel leader, is involved with a missing child and a spy sister. Cormac threatens to expose Ruhn’s mind-speaking ability if he doesn’t meet him. Ruhn shares this with his friends, Flynn and Declan, and they express their support despite the dangerous circumstances. Declan offers to help with anything, and the group discusses the risks, knowing that their families could be in danger if they get caught. Ruhn resolves to meet Cormac, despite the looming danger.

CHAPTER 19 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce and Ithan uncover a stack of documents hidden inside a coffee table, containing academic papers, clippings, and records about the Asteri and the weaponization of Firstlight. These papers suggest that the Asteri might not be divine beings, as commonly believed, but fallen stars—questioning their supposed sacred power. Bryce, shaken, realizes that Danika, a history major, might have been digging into these mysteries, possibly to verify her suspicions about the Asteri. She wonders if this is what led to Sofie Renast's involvement. Amidst the papers, she finds a reference to a project called Dusk's Truth, something Danika had mentioned to Sofie. However, the page on it is blank, leaving Bryce with more questions. She urges Ithan to hide the documents before heading off to work, dismissing the idea of further heroics.

Meanwhile, Ruhn meets Cormac at a pool hall, where the two discuss the rebellion and the role of Agent Daybright, an informant who communicates directly with the Asteri. Cormac wants Ruhn's help in establishing contact with Daybright, knowing that Ruhn has the rare ability to "mindspeak," a power from his mother's Avallen Fae bloodline. Cormac insists that it's for a greater cause, as Daybright's intelligence has saved many lives by preventing imperial attacks. Despite his reluctance, Ruhn realizes that he may have no choice but to help. He questions Cormac’s trust in him, but Cormac insists that he has trusted Ruhn with sensitive information and promises not to reveal his involvement. Cormac reveals that Sofie had been a field agent for Ophion, the rebel group, and that her disappearance has left a gap in their operations. Ruhn must decide whether to trust Cormac and take up Sofie's role, despite the dangers involved.

CHAPTER 20 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

The chapter opens with Tharion in a dry dock, repairing his wave skimmer in solitude, sweat dripping along with the water from the vehicle. He's been trying to clear his mind after a day full of unexpected encounters and revelations. Tharion had learned about an Avallen prince being an Ophion rebel, and a plot involving Sofie Renast. His main objective had been to learn what Ithan Holstrom knew, but the outcome was underwhelming. Still, Holstrom had agreed to assist in finding Emile Renast, who was in danger.

The River Queen's daughter enters, and the two have an awkward, unspoken conversation about their past, with hints of lingering affection. Tharion is not interested in rekindling things, as he feels trapped in a binding relationship and dreads the idea of being forced into a wedding and children, which would imprison him further. He brushes off the River Queen’s daughter’s advances, offering her a future "double date" as a vague excuse to get away from her.

Meanwhile, Hunt and Baxian share an uncomfortable moment in the barracks, with Hunt showing Baxian the common room and various modern tech, despite Baxian's apparent lack of understanding of things like video games. The chapter ends with Hunt trying to shake off his frustration with the situation, knowing that the political maneuvering surrounding him, Bryce, and their friends is only going to get more complicated, and the weight of past mistakes looms over him.

CHAPTER 21 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Bryce and Hunt share a quiet, intimate moment together after a long day. They discuss their plans to help Cormac, primarily to help Emile but also to gain an advantage, particularly in their quest to understand Danika. Bryce admits that learning more about Danika matters to her, despite her previous claim that it didn’t. She expresses that she can’t do it without Hunt’s help, and he reassures her of his commitment, though he emphasizes the importance of having an exit strategy.

As the conversation turns more personal, Bryce and Hunt navigate the growing attraction between them, both admitting that it’s been a while since either of them has been physically intimate with someone. They share a light-hearted exchange about past encounters, with Bryce teasing Hunt about a nymph he was with and Hunt jokingly about her previous interactions with a lion shifter.

The tension between them builds as they flirt and tease each other, leading to a more passionate moment. Bryce takes control, much to Hunt’s pleasure, pushing both of their boundaries. Despite their awareness of Ithan’s presence in the apartment, the moment escalates into a heated encounter. Hunt tries to maintain control, but Bryce’s teasing and assertiveness leave him overwhelmed with desire.

This chapter focuses on their growing emotional connection, with an undercurrent of unresolved tension, as well as their developing trust and the vulnerability they share in these intimate moments. The scene also reflects both characters’ struggles with their past relationships, making this chapter a significant moment in their evolving relationship.

CHAPTER 22 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In Chapter 22, Ruhn and his friends, Declan and Flynn, prepare for Ruhn's first attempt to make contact with Agent Daybright using a commcrystal. The trio banters and teases, but Ruhn remains focused on the task at hand, unsure of how to connect his powers to the crystal. After some mental preparation, he successfully establishes a link and begins communicating with Agent Daybright, who appears to him as a humanoid figure cloaked in flame. They exchange a code phrase to confirm each other's identity, and Daybright provides some cryptic messages, including one about "safe passage under the waning moon," which confuses Ruhn. After the communication ends, Ruhn discusses the encounter with Cormac, who is less than pleased with his cousin's involvement in the rebel efforts. Ruhn learns that his contact with Daybright will be a slow, bureaucratic process, but he continues to feel drawn into the rebellion despite the risks.

The scene ends with Cormac preparing for a hunt, and the focus shifts to Hunt and Isaiah, who are summoned to Celestina's study for a triarii meeting. The tension builds as Hunt reflects on the rebel dealings and his personal stakes in the situation, particularly concerning Bryce.

Celestina reveals a shocking development to Hunt and the others: she is to mate with Ephraim in a highly-publicized ceremony, a move orchestrated by the Asteri to regain control over her and distract the media. She explains that Ephraim’s appointment is crucial to replenishing the Archangels after the deaths of two, and the mating ceremony will coincide with the Autumnal Equinox, a day that blends light and dark. The event will draw royals, dignitaries, and Ephraim’s retinue, and Celestina subtly warns Pollux to behave, knowing that with the Hind's impending visit, tensions will rise.

Hunt is drawn into a conversation with Celestina about his own feelings regarding Bryce’s engagement to Crown Prince Cormac. Celestina shows understanding and vulnerability, revealing her own secret friendship with Shahar and apologizing for not being able to help him when Shahar died. She tells Hunt that she tried to buy his freedom from the Asteri but was repeatedly denied. This unexpected revelation softens Hunt’s hardened view of her. She proposes that they become friends and allies, acknowledging the dangers of the upcoming events.

Hunt expresses his concerns about Sandriel’s former triarii and their influence, urging Celestina to be cautious. He offers his support, pledging to help her protect the city. Before he leaves, he reassures Celestina that she shouldn’t feel guilty for not rescuing him earlier, acknowledging that if she had, he wouldn’t have ended up in Lunathion—and wouldn't have met Bryce, which makes all his suffering worthwhile.

Outside, Baxian waits for him, hinting that the "old gang" is reassembling, and that things are about to get much more complicated. Hunt remains suspicious of Baxian’s motives, especially after learning of his strange interaction with Pollux and his disinterest in the Hind. As Hunt prepares to leave for Bryce, he can't shake the sense that something important is being withheld from him.

The storm clouds overhead mirror the brewing conflict, and Hunt is left wondering just how deep the manipulation and intrigue run within the Archangels’ ranks. The chapter ends with a sense of impending danger and the realization that alliances may shift in unexpected ways.

CHAPTER 23 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In Chapter 23, Ithan and Tharion investigate the murder of a selkie female found near the Istros River. Ithan, a wolf, has become used to death, but this case, marked by brutal execution and torture, shakes him. The victim was killed with a Gorsian bullet to prevent her from shifting into her seal form, followed by repeated lacerations to keep her bleeding out. Tharion, the captain, oversees the investigation while Ithan uses his keen sense of smell to gather clues.

As Ithan analyzes the scene, he detects the presence of two human scents on the victim: one female and one male. His instincts tell him that the female, possibly Pippa Spetsos, a dangerous rebel, may have been involved. The victim likely helped a boy, Emile, move toward Lunathion, and the boy’s scent was on her clothing, suggesting a close connection to the selkie before her death.

Tharion and Ithan discuss their theories in Tharion’s office, noting the timing of the kill and the absence of Emile’s tracks. Ithan suggests the selkie was tortured by a human woman, and Pippa could be the key player. As they prepare to continue their investigation, Ithan reflects on the weight of his life and the tension between him and Tharion, who warns about the dangerous Pippa.

Later, Bryce is seen walking with Ruhn toward the Aux training facility, avoiding a storm. The chapter ends with Bryce reflecting on her strained relationship with her mother, marked by postcards sent during fights, adding a personal layer to her character as she prepares for the next challenge.

CHAPTER 24 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this intense chapter, Ruhn is caught in a black void after an inexplicable event. He’s disoriented, confused, and doesn’t know how he ended up there. His mind reaches out, and he hears a female voice calling him to wake up. Despite his uncertainty, the voice’s urgency suggests he’s in serious danger. The voice introduces herself as a mysterious figure who has somehow found Ruhn’s mind without the use of a crystal, urging him to open his eyes. He recognizes her voice, yet they both claim never to have met before, adding to the mystery.

Back in the physical world, Bryce dives into a sewer river searching for Ruhn. She’s determined to find him, only to be confronted by five Reapers who hold Ruhn unconscious. The Reapers deliver a chilling message from the Prince of the Pit, Apollion, who is preparing for war and demands to face Bryce at full power. They reveal that Bryce sold her soul and that they will come for it when her time comes. Bryce, enraged and determined, is forced into a confrontation with the Reapers, but her light power fails to deter them.

Just as the situation becomes dire, Cormac appears and begins to remove the Reapers one by one, using his own abilities. Bryce is urged to use the light power more effectively, and with her new weapon, the Starsword, she gains the strength she needs to fight back. The blade, which had previously been dormant, comes alive with her power, and she successfully injures a Reaper, causing it to bleed. The remaining Reapers retreat, but the battle is far from over.

With the fight over, Cormac teleports them to the Aux training center, where Ruhn regains consciousness. Bryce is still in shock from the events, especially after seeing how the Starsword, which had once seemed a mere symbol, proved powerful enough to defeat the Reapers. As Bryce contemplates the implications of the sword’s power, she realizes that the blade is tied to something much deeper than she had initially understood—something that might change the course of the battle against the forces gathering against her.

PART 2 THE ABYSS

CHAPTER 25 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Tharion is summoned by the River Queen, who confronts him about asking her daughter on a date. Tharion, in a vulnerable position, apologizes for causing distress but explains that he meant to please her. The Queen warns him about her daughter’s fragility and the dangers of Lunathion, the wild forest, suggesting that she may be overwhelmed by such experiences.

The conversation shifts to the Renast boy, Emile, whom Tharion is tasked with locating. The Queen insists that the boy be brought to the Blue Court before Ophion or the other River Courts get to him. She doesn’t reveal her reasons for wanting Emile but implies that he could be used as a weapon to manipulate the other River Queens and their powers. Tharion agrees to continue searching for him, though he wonders about the larger power struggles involved.

Tharion is later sent on a seemingly trivial task of cleaning trash in the Old Square, which frustrates him. As the Captain of Intelligence, he finds it beneath him, especially when dealing with the pressing issues of Emile and the Queen’s power ambitions. His frustration intensifies when he is attacked with bottles by citizens Above, a reminder of the River Queen’s harsh methods, which mirror the cruelty of the Asteri. Tharion begins to contemplate the need for change in the power dynamics of the realms.

Meanwhile, Ruhn brings the Starsword to his father, the Autumn King, after an incident with the Reapers. The sword reacted when the Reapers attacked, glowing and causing them to flee. Ruhn’s father explains that the sword is ancient and made from a fallen star’s metal, existing beyond Midgard’s laws. Ruhn, still shaken from the events, wonders about the sword's true powers and its potential impact on those who seek it, including his father and the Asteri. The conversation takes a tense turn when Ruhn’s father reminds him of his sister’s involvement in the incident, which only fuels Ruhn's anger toward his father’s cold attitude. The chapter ends with an ominous feeling of the power struggles unfolding around them.

CHAPTER 26 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Bryce and Hunt meet with Cormac, who demonstrates his ability to teleport with precise accuracy. After showing off his teleportation skills, Cormac reveals that it’s a gift passed down from the Starborn and that he uses it to teleport to specific locations, as long as he has the exact coordinates. Bryce, intrigued by this ability, decides she wants to learn it as well. Cormac hints that if Bryce has Starborn abilities, she might be able to teleport as well, and she eagerly accepts the challenge to try it.

Their conversation turns to the Reapers and the looming threat from Hel’s armies. Bryce reveals her suspicions about the Prince of the Pit's involvement in sending the Reapers, but she doesn't fully believe the claim. They plan to confirm the source of the Reapers before taking any further action. Bryce also plans to train in teleportation with Cormac, as it could make her an unstoppable force against future threats.

As the chapter progresses, Bryce contacts Jesiba to inquire about obtaining Death Marks for a trip to the Bone Quarter, a lead that might reveal more about Danika’s secrets. Jesiba is cryptic about the information, mentioning that Bryce should start asking questions about why Danika was always involved with the gallery. Meanwhile, Declan and Ithan are working on tracking down footage from the Black Dock to search for Emile and any relevant information about the Reapers.

Ruhn, still dealing with his emotions about Danika’s secrets, reflects on Bryce’s words and the pain of realizing that he may never have truly known his late sister. The chapter ends with the team preparing for their next steps, uncertain about the paths ahead but determined to uncover the truth.

CHAPTER 27 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce decided against her gym session and instead waited by the elevator. When Hunt finally showed up, she teased him for being late. Surprised, he realized they weren't working out but looking for Emile, a missing child. As they navigated the busy Meat Market, Hunt questioned Bryce’s theory that Emile might be hiding there instead of the Bone Quarter. Bryce, however, wasn’t convinced by the Reapers' suggestions and chose to investigate both leads, unwilling to rely solely on Declan and Ithan's surveillance footage. She hoped Danika’s clue—*“where the weary souls find relief”—*might also apply to the Meat Market.

Hunt noted Bryce’s neon sneakers and athletic attire, which, combined with her bold personality, made her noticeable. Annoyed, he warned her about the attention they were drawing and the potential for running into the Viper Queen. Bryce brushed off his concerns, assuring him that Emile could handle himself if he’d made it this far.

To cover more ground, Bryce brought in help. She waved over Fury and Juniper, both dressed in their own unique styles—Fury in all black and Juniper in casual, flowing attire. They divided the area among themselves, each taking a section of the market to search without attracting suspicion. Fury, unamused, mocked Hunt’s gym attire, and Bryce joked about needing a capable partner like Hunt for the mission.

After thirty minutes, everyone returned empty-handed. Bryce, with lamb bones in hand as a treat for her pet Syrinx, concluded that their lack of success meant they might have to look into the Bone Quarter after all, adding weight to their need to speak with the Under-King.

Juniper, troubled by her memories of the Meat Market’s dark history, especially the cruelty of its fighting pits, hinted at her brother’s tragic involvement there. Fury confided in Hunt that Juniper's brother, Julius, had been trapped and killed in the fighting ring, enslaved by the Viper Queen. Despite her resentment for the place, Juniper joined them to support Bryce and find Emile, showing her loyalty and empathy.

Back at the gym in her building, Bryce attempted a grueling plank workout. She contemplated her powers and the enemies she’d acquired, chuckling at the thought of using her magic from an armchair. Hunt, finding her collapsed mid-plank, teased her about dropping like a corpse, and the two shared a moment of camaraderie. Bryce, exhausted but determined, thought about confronting the Under-King, planning her next steps as she braced herself for the challenges ahead.continued, her gaze steady and resolute. "I want people to know," she added, her voice softer yet determined.

Hunt looked at her, processing the enormity of her words. He, the famed Umbra Mortis, had always been a weapon, an enforcer, a tool to instill fear in the most hardened criminals and adversaries. And here she was, willing to stand by him openly, despite the stigma his reputation might carry.

"Then you can call me whatever you want," he murmured, trailing his fingers along her cheek. "Though I think 'boyfriend' sounds a bit... ordinary."

Bryce smirked, unbothered. "Fine, boyfriend it is, Mr. Umbra Mortis." She laughed softly and leaned into him. "But seriously, I want this out in the open. No hiding."

Hunt's chest swelled with a surge of affection and pride. He’d never dreamed of someone willing to accept every part of him, shadows and all, let alone declare it publicly. And here she was, this woman with fire in her heart, ready to claim him as hers. It left him feeling whole in a way he hadn’t experienced in ages.

"Alright," he said, unable to hide the grin on his face. "Let's tell the world." He sealed his words with a lingering kiss, letting her feel the weight of his commitment in every gentle touch.

The two lay there in the comforting silence, entangled in each other's warmth, basking in the joy of finally expressing what they’d both held in for so long. All the missions, the battles, the hardships — everything seemed worth it now, as they lay together, free from the burdens of unspoken words and hidden emotions. The world outside could wait; for tonight, they had each other, and that was enough.

CHAPTER 28 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn finds himself on a mental bridge, facing Agent Daybright again, her fiery form filled with a striking intensity. He thanks her for trying to wake him up after he encountered Reapers, leading to a brief discussion about their unique mental connection. Daybright explains that they no longer need the crystal for contact—it acted as a beacon, but now their minds know where to go. However, she shifts quickly to business, informing Ruhn about an upcoming rebel attack on an Asteri transport. This shipment includes a prototype mech-suit and a massive load of weaponry bound for the northern front. Daybright suggests destruction over capture, warning that trying to offload the cargo would risk capture.

As Daybright details the shipment’s route and security, Ruhn feels conflicted. Aligning with the rebels makes him uneasy, but the intelligence she shares is crucial. Daybright hints that if he knows of any high-level rebels, they’d be at great risk if he’s captured. She is cautious and skeptical, keeping her distance and ending the conversation abruptly when Ruhn probes further, especially regarding a former agent, Sofie Renast.

The next morning, Hunt and Bryce gather with Ruhn and Cormac to discuss the intel. Hunt remains suspicious, emphasizing the possibility of double agents in Ophion. He questions Cormac’s certainty in Daybright’s loyalty, pointing out that anyone can be bought. Despite Bryce’s warnings to stay out of rebel matters, Cormac insists on taking the information back to Command, believing the potential gain is worth the risk.

Tension brews as Cormac critiques Bryce and Hunt’s relationship, hinting it could undermine the betrothal ruse. Bryce boldly responds, unfazed, and Hunt supports her with unwavering loyalty. As the team gears up for a risky day, with plans to question the Under-King on the Reaper attack, Hunt anticipates a night of celebration with Bryce—an escape from the dangers that surround them.

CHAPTER 29 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn stands tense in the dusty alley, hiding in shadows alongside Ithan while Cormac meets with a cloaked informant down the way. The city, which once felt like home, now feels ominous with the presence of dreadwolves—elite interrogators under the Hind's command—prowling the streets, their cold eyes marked by uniforms adorned with symbols of their brutal reputation. Ithan speculates if the Hind is on to them, intensifying Ruhn’s wariness. Even though he tries to remain calm, he realizes this situation is unsafe, and his shadows are all that stand between them and danger.

Once Cormac returns, he relays information: the Asteri might suspect Emile, the runaway they’re searching for, is hiding in Crescent City, which could explain the Hind’s presence along with her pack of dreadwolves. Ithan seethes, disgusted by the wolves, calling them demons in wolf’s clothing. Cormac’s response is grim, reminding them of the dreadwolves’ terrorizing history in other cities and the silent fear they spread wherever they go. This haunting reality hits Ruhn hard, and he steels himself, considering how the Autumn King, his father, might react to the Hind encroaching on their territory.

Their conversation abruptly ends when a massive dreadwolf enforcer, Mordoc, arrives. His menacing appearance and reputation leave Ithan visibly afraid, and the group instinctively retreats deeper into the shadows. Mordoc, the Hind’s second in command and enforcer, has a collar lined with darts—each representing a rebel captured and broken. As Mordoc sniffs around the alley, detecting their presence, Ruhn realizes the bloodhound’s terrifying identity: Mordoc is Danika’s estranged father, a fact that Ithan reluctantly confirms.

The tension escalates as Mordoc methodically closes in, using his bloodhound abilities to track Ruhn’s scent. Cormac can teleport only one person at a time and takes Ithan first, leaving Ruhn alone. Mordoc prowls the alley, his voice dripping with menace as he taunts the unseen Ruhn, seemingly able to sense his emotions. Finally, Cormac returns just in time, grabbing Ruhn and teleporting them both to safety, leaving only shadows and a fading scent to evade Mordoc’s detection.

Meanwhile, Bryce and Hunt are in the Bone Quarter, where the Under-King introduces his terrifying companion, a demon hound called the Shepherd. As they prepare to fight, Bryce jokingly urges Hunt to “fry this fucker,” and a fierce battle ensues. Hunt’s lightning barely slows the Shepherd, who then splits into three massive hounds, each deadly and united in purpose. Hunt orders Bryce to flee, promising to follow, and she reluctantly complies, running through the misty, tomb-strewn Bone Quarter. Despite the danger, Bryce manages to evade one of the hounds, which crashes into a mausoleum.

As the fog thickens, Bryce finds herself near the Dead Gate, with her Starsword lying between her and the Shepherd, who emerges, snarling. She braces herself as Hunt’s lightning and her own determination bring them to the edge of survival.

CHAPTER 30 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

CHAPTER 31 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn sat in a quiet bar in FiRo with Ithan, nursing his whiskey and trying to process everything. Cormac had dropped them there before disappearing, likely to warn the rebels about Mordoc's involvement. As they sit, Ruhn reflects on the risk, knowing that Mordoc could now identify both his and Ithan's scents. This meeting serves as an alibi since the cameras would prove they weren’t at the scene when Mordoc confronted Ithan.

Ruhn initiates a casual conversation, asking Ithan if he’d consider moving in with him and his friends, trying to keep their meeting casual for the cameras. They play along, with Ruhn making lighthearted jabs to keep up the appearance. Just as their conversation turns more genuine, two unfamiliar yet intimidating figures approach them. Ruhn realizes they are facing the Hind and the Harpy, notorious and dangerous enemies. The Hind suggests they play a round of cards, signaling a potentially dangerous confrontation.

Meanwhile, Hunt faces a battle of his own against two demons, brutal experiments sent by the Under-King to harvest energy from souls. As Hunt unleashes his lightning powers, he realizes Bryce may be in serious danger and questions if she managed to reach safety.

Bryce, crouching by the Dead Gate, is surrounded by dangers—hound-like creatures, Reapers chanting incantations, and the Dead Gate glowing ominously. She realizes the Gate could siphon her energy, perhaps leading her to lose her power or, worse, her soul. Surrounded and with no way out, Bryce decides to grab the Starsword, gathering all her strength as she faces the advancing hounds.

The intense standoff between Hunt and Bryce’s enemies escalates when Hunt appears beside Bryce, surrounded by a fierce, blue lightning aura. His raw power is unleashed, and Bryce, determined to do something drastic, intercepts the lightning with her Starsword in a final, explosive attempt to survive. The chapter ends with an eruption of power as Hunt’s lightning collides with the Starsword, leaving their fate uncertain.

CHAPTER 32 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce threw herself into the path of Hunt’s lightning, letting it course through her body and into the Starsword she wielded. Power surged from the blade, transforming Bryce into a glowing force as she charged toward the Shepherd, who then split into three hounds. Bryce struck the first beast with her energized sword, sending lightning through its body, killing it instantly. The other two hounds shrieked as they watched their companion die, and nearby Reapers scattered into the mist.

Hunt tried to warn Bryce of an incoming attack, but it was too late—the beast's tail whipped into Hunt, flinging him against the Dead Gate. He collapsed, his power flickering out as Bryce held her ground, facing the remaining hounds. Though her sword retained some power, it was clear that the previous strike had depleted most of it. Hunt, now struggling to stand, touched the Dead Gate and felt his energy begin to drain into it. Realizing the Gate could provide immense power, he suspected Apollion, the Prince of the Pit, had orchestrated this situation to force him to unlock his full potential.

As Bryce prepared to face the final beasts, Hunt seized this newfound energy, channeling it from the Dead Gate into his own body. Power surged through him, blindingly bright, and he shouted to Bryce to “light it up.” He directed a powerful blast of energy into Bryce, who absorbed it into the Starsword. Together, they unleashed a storm of lightning that forced the Shepherd to flee.

But Bryce wasn’t done. Hunt lifted her into the air, flying high above the creature before plummeting down together, striking the Shepherd with immense force. Bryce drove the Starsword into its nape, releasing a devastating burst of firstlight and lightning that obliterated the hound into pieces. Exhausted but alive, Bryce and Hunt regrouped, sprinting toward the river, with Hunt’s energy visibly drained.

Meanwhile, Tharion reported to the River Queen about the latest Vanir bodies found, as she waited in her water-filled study, her demeanor as cold as her surroundings.the dreadwolves that accompanied her, prowling outside like shadows cast by her will. The chilling atmosphere surrounding the table was thick with unspoken menace as they began their poker game, each card dealt a calculated step toward something darker. Ruhn knew the Hind’s presence was no mere formality. The Autumn King had sent her with purpose, and her icy control and deadly smile indicated that this was more than a casual encounter.

As they played, the Hind kept her gaze on Ruhn, her golden eyes assessing him with a predator’s precision. The Harpy, meanwhile, watched him with a look of disdain mixed with a perverse fascination. Ithan, maintaining his bored facade, subtly kept his body tense, ready for any unexpected move.

The Hind finally broke the silence. “You seem uneasy, Ruhn. Perhaps the weight of your father’s expectations troubles you?” Her tone was mocking, laced with amusement at his discomfort.

Ruhn shrugged, pretending to focus on his cards. “Family expectations can be a burden, but I manage. Don’t we all?”

The Hind smirked, her fingers flicking over her cards with grace and agility. “That’s a diplomatic way of saying you’re terrified. But maybe you should be, princeling. There are forces in this city far beyond what you and your friends can handle.”

Her words were veiled but ominous, stirring something cold and anxious in Ruhn’s chest. He forced himself to hold her gaze, refusing to let her see his unease. Ithan played along, lifting his cards with a smirk as he muttered, “Let’s just play, shall we?”

The game resumed, yet Ruhn couldn’t shake the sensation of being hunted. He knew too well that the Hind’s presence was a message from his father, a reminder of the dangers surrounding him and those he cared about.

CHAPTER 33 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Ruhn is confronted by the Hind and the Harpy, two dangerous figures connected to the Asteri. The Hind, with her cold demeanor and subtle wealth, initiates a poker game with Ruhn, Ithan, and the Harpy, while subtly probing Ruhn for information. It becomes clear that the Hind is keeping tabs on Ruhn for his sister, Hypaxia, though there is tension between the characters. The Hind also reveals that she has knowledge of Ithan's feelings for Bryce and taunts him about his past with her. Ithan grows increasingly agitated by her comments, but Ruhn tries to maintain control of the situation.

As the game progresses, the Hind’s true nature becomes more apparent—she is a ruthless and calculating individual, likely responsible for many deaths. The conversation turns to threats and power plays, with the Hind’s connection to the Asteri looming large. Ruhn tries to deflect her provocations, but tensions remain high. After the game, the Hind delivers a cryptic message to Ruhn, implying future consequences and leaving him with a chilling remark about her connection to Cormac.

Later, at the apartment, Ruhn and Ithan brief Bryce about their encounter with the Hind and Harpy. Bryce is concerned, but the group remains focused on the larger issues at hand. Hunt, preparing to leave for a mission, shares a brief but meaningful moment with Bryce before departing, and Tharion lightens the mood with his commentary. The chapter ends with Ruhn noticing that Bryce smells different, hinting at a deeper shift in the storyline.

CHAPTER 34 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Hunt is at Celestina's private study, standing with her and a few others, including Isaiah, Naomi, Baxian, and the Hind. The tension is palpable as Hunt struggles with his feelings of residual rage and awe from his recent experiences with Bryce, yet his demeanor remains impassive. The gathering feels uncomfortable, particularly with the presence of Pollux, the Hind, and the Hammer, making the atmosphere even more strained. Hunt tries to comfort Celestina, sensing her anxiety before an important meeting with Ephraim.

Celestina and Ephraim's meeting is awkward, with a miscommunication when Ephraim goes to kiss Celestina, and she inadvertently turns her head. Despite the awkwardness, Ephraim seems pleased to see Celestina, but Hunt wonders about her true feelings. As the conversation continues, Hunt's thoughts shift to the precarious situation surrounding the Asteri and their manipulation of relationships, including whether Celestina was truly willing or merely forced into her position.

The mood is broken by a knock on the door, and the scene shifts to Bryce’s apartment, where she and her friends are discussing the consequences of recent events. Sabine Fendyr arrives unannounced, furious and confrontational, accusing Bryce of being involved in schemes to undermine her birthright. Tension escalates as Sabine targets Ithan, questioning his loyalty and accusing him of treason, while Bryce coolly defends herself.

Back at the gathering, Hunt grows increasingly uncomfortable with the forced alliances being made, and the awkwardness of the event weighs heavily on him. While he tries to remain focused, his phone buzzes with a message from Bryce, drawing him into the chaos. He prepares to leave, seeking to help Bryce, but Celestina’s disappointed gaze follows him as he slips away into the night, unsure of how his departure will affect the delicate situation in the room.

CHAPTER 35 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce regrets opening her door to Sabine and finds herself caught in a tense standoff between Ithan and Sabine, where violence feels imminent. Ithan provokes Sabine by bringing up her past relationship with Mordoc, the Hind’s captain, and Danika’s father. Sabine’s anger and denial reveal cracks in her composure, and Bryce seizes the moment to escalate the confrontation strategically. She needles Sabine by questioning Danika’s potential ties to the Ophion rebels and insinuating Ithan’s potential rise as a wolf leader, which unsettles Sabine further.

As tensions peak, Hunt arrives, weapon in hand, threatening Sabine to leave. Baxian, the angel-shifter, unexpectedly enters the scene, his presence unnerving Sabine. His feral grin and their history imply deeper connections, and Sabine retreats but leaves with a foreboding warning about tangling with Mordoc.

After Sabine’s departure, Bryce confronts the revelation that Mordoc is Danika’s father, information that devastates her. Bryce struggles with Danika’s secrecy, while Ithan admits he knew but was bound by loyalty not to reveal it.

The chapter also explores Ithan’s struggles with his place in the pack hierarchy, his unrelenting grief for Danika, and his readiness to challenge Sabine. Baxian’s interactions with the group remain cryptic, hinting at his complex past with Sabine and Mordoc. Meanwhile, Hunt and Bryce’s bond deepens as they support each other through the emotional fallout of these revelations.

The chapter closes with Ithan agreeing to move in with Ruhn, setting the stage for new alliances and potential confrontations, while Bryce reflects on the secrets surrounding Danika’s life and choices.

CHAPTER 36 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn found himself enjoying a rare moment of peace on the bridge after a hectic day. Back at his apartment, Ithan had been welcomed by Flynn and Declan, though the fourth bedroom was a disaster, destined to become Ithan’s room after some cleaning. The Fae males’ camaraderie was straightforward and accepting, in stark contrast to the enigmatic figure Ruhn now conversed with: Day. Their psychic meeting allowed him the luxury of a conjured armchair while Day lounged on a red velvet fainting couch that stirred memories of Lehabah, the fire sprite who had sacrificed herself to save someone Ruhn loved. Their conversation turned reflective, as Day’s fire flickered in sympathy, her curiosity unearthing Ruhn’s guilt and mourning.

Their discussion shifted to the rebellion and the dangers of their shared mission. Day, with her veiled identity and restrained emotion, admitted to a difficult life, devoid of friends and burdened by a family as monstrous as Ruhn’s father. Her loneliness mirrored Ruhn’s struggles, sparking an unusual camaraderie. They shared dark humor and hints of mutual understanding, though their ideals on rebellion diverged. Day’s insights into strategic sabotage underscored her commitment to the cause, though Ruhn couldn’t ignore the impossibilities she described—lack of resources, betrayal, and human fragility in the face of the Asteri’s might. Their conversation ended with Day’s departure, her warmth fading into embers, leaving Ruhn contemplative and alone once more.

Meanwhile, Ithan adjusted to his new surroundings in Ruhn’s home. The dynamic between the Fae males was both humorous and bittersweet for him, reminding him of the brotherhood he had lost. Despite his attempts to find peace, memories of Connor haunted him, especially after a tense confrontation with Sabine the previous night. While reminiscing about the pack and his unfulfilled feelings for Bryce, Ithan reflected on the connection and unity he once felt as part of a team. These thoughts brought a sharp pang of loss, reminding him of the life he could never reclaim, even as he tried to forge a new path among his unlikely companions.

CHAPTER 37 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce sweated through an intense ballet-inspired class led by Madame Kyrah, a swan shifter. The combination of precise ballet movements and thumping dance-club beats was a reprieve for Bryce, who used the sessions to clear her mind. Her friend Juniper, a faun and talented dancer, held perfect form, but Bryce could sense a heaviness beneath her focus. During a break, Juniper revealed devastating news: Korinne Lescau, a less experienced dancer, was promoted to principal at CCB despite prior claims that no promotions would occur. It was a political move meant to punish Juniper, who had previously stood up against elitist practices. Though Juniper vowed to persevere out of love for dance, Bryce’s heart ached at her friend's quiet dignity. Determined to help, Bryce decided to call Director Gorgyn, leveraging her royal title.

Meanwhile, Hunt pushed through his rooftop workout at the Comitium, his mind distracted until the Harpy interrupted him. She delivered a message from Celestina, hinting at his “disappearing act” the previous night. Hunt reluctantly followed her to the Governor’s office, where Celestina confronted him about leaving her celebration early to assist Bryce. Though he apologized, Celestina punished him with two weeks in the barracks, away from Bryce. Hunt noticed Celestina’s lonely demeanor, even as she spoke of her mate, Ephraim. Frustrated but resigned, Hunt left her office, only to encounter the Hind in the hall, her serene yet fiery gaze suggesting more trouble ahead.

CHAPTER 38 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

The chapter begins with Bryce, Ithan, and Tharion standing outside a set of imposing iron doors in the Old Square, adorned with celestial engravings. Bryce is visibly uneasy about their decision to visit the mystics, individuals with the dark and mysterious ability to tap into unseen realms. Despite her warnings about the disturbing nature of the mystics’ services and the shady reputation of their keeper, the group proceeds, driven by Ithan’s desire to uncover the truth about his brother Connor’s current state.

After Bryce rings the crescent moon door chime, an eye embedded in the ironwork scrutinizes them. Tharion’s Blue Court badge grants them entry, but Bryce remains on edge as they step into the dark, damp interior. Inside, they meet the Astronomer, an ancient Vanir male whose unsettling appearance and enslaved fire sprites trapped in his rings immediately raise Bryce's ire. Despite her disgust, she keeps her emotions in check as the group follows the Astronomer deeper into his lair.

The space is two levels high, with shelves filled with books and scrolls. In the center, a luminous golden orb hangs, casting light over three submerged mystics in large tanks of cloudy water. The mystics—one male, one female, and one of ambiguous gender—are gaunt and lifeless-looking, wearing masks that supply their breathing. Bryce struggles to suppress her revulsion as the Astronomer explains their abilities and the sacrifice they make, forfeiting their lives to drift through realms of unimaginable wonder. His justification for exploiting them only fuels Bryce's silent rage.

Ithan steps forward with authority, placing a stack of gold marks to pay for the mystics' services and inquires whether his brother, Connor, still resides in the Bone Quarter or has passed through the Dead Gate. The Astronomer warns that answering such a question requires a "riskier" method, costing additional gold marks. Without hesitation, Ithan agrees, much to Bryce’s dismay.

The Astronomer retrieves a bundle containing "bloodsalt," a mixture created from blood drawn during childbirth and death—symbolizing the transitions of life and death. As he sprinkles the salt into the mystics’ tanks, the water turns rust-colored, as if filled with blood. This unsettling sight deeply disturbs Ithan and Tharion, while Bryce remains grimly focused. Despite her earlier warnings, Bryce now pushes for them to leave before things escalate, but the ritual is already underway.

The chapter ends on a tense note as the mystics begin their dangerous work, and the true cost of their actions starts to weigh on the group. Bryce's moral outrage simmers beneath her calm exterior, hinting at potential consequences for their decision to engage with the Astronomer and his dark practices.

CHAPTER 39 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce and her companions confront Thanatos, the Prince of the Ravine, through a hologram in an orrery. As Bryce stands before the demon, she feels a chilling sense of recognition from him, as if he can see into her soul. The conversation quickly turns intense, with Thanatos accusing Bryce of killing one of his creations, a Shepherd of souls. Bryce learns that Connor Holstrom’s soul remains in the Bone Quarter and that someone has given an order to leave him there until the usual time has passed.

The conversation shifts to the mysterious human boy, Emile Renast, whose name Thanatos doesn't recognize but suggests may be connected to Bryce’s world. Thanatos grows impatient with their questioning and threatens to feast on their souls, plunging the room into darkness. The mystic monitoring the feed begins to panic as the prince starts to claim one of the mystics' souls. Bryce and her team scramble to save the mystics, but the room is filled with tension as they struggle to avoid further tragedy.

Ithan acts swiftly to free the mystics from their freezing tubes, risking their lives in the process. Tensions rise, and Bryce feels a deep sense of frustration as she realizes she can't do more to help the mystics. As they leave, they face an emotional confrontation with the Astronomer, whose actions have pushed them to their limits.

On the street, Bryce and Tharion exchange harsh words about the encounter, with Bryce revealing her distrust of Tharion’s manipulative tactics. Just as the tension peaks, Ithan becomes pale, staring at something across the alley. Bryce follows his gaze and sees Mordoc, a figure she’s only seen in the media, watching them with a chilling smile.

CHAPTER 40 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce, Tharion, and Ithan confront Mordoc, a dangerous wolf captain, in a tense moment. Mordoc mocks Bryce, questioning her motives for visiting such a place, and taunts Ithan about his past disgrace. Tharion steps in with his usual charm, pushing back against Mordoc’s insinuations. The exchange grows heated as Mordoc reveals a threatening story involving merfolk, but Bryce quickly disengages, pulling Ithan and Tharion away.

Once back in the Old Square, Bryce discusses their lack of progress in finding answers about Emile. She shares a quiet moment with Tharion, acknowledging their strained relationship but also their mutual need to stick together against more dangerous threats. Tharion, despite his flaws, agrees to help her with any future leads, ending their conversation with a light-hearted promise to send her photos. Ithan, still distant, reveals his lingering doubts about the situation. Bryce reassures him, though she herself feels uncertain about their next steps.

Later, Hunt meets with Isaiah in the 33rd’s private cafeteria, seeking solace and advice. He reveals his frustration about having to wait two weeks before seeing Bryce. Isaiah lightens the mood with humor but senses something deeper troubling Hunt. Hunt admits his feelings of being stuck in a situation he can't fully explain, mentioning Sabine's recent interference and Baxian's unsolicited backup during the prior night’s events. The conversation shifts to Celestina’s rule and the tension between Hunt and the other angels, with Isaiah showing his unwavering loyalty to Hunt despite the pressures of the political landscape. The two share a moment of camaraderie before Isaiah leaves for a meeting, and the air clears between Hunt and Baxian as Hunt tries to defuse the tension between them.

The room felt charged with a strange tension, but it didn’t take long for Hunt and Baxian to fall into a rhythm, the intensity of their game cutting through the awkward silence between them. After a few moments of competitive banter, Baxian's sharp edge softened, and it seemed that, despite their complicated past, they were finding common ground in the strangest of ways—through the laughter and frustration of video games.

The conversation shifted as Baxian dropped his guard a little, offering a glimpse into his softer side. Life was too short to hold grudges, he said, which, while not a satisfying answer to Hunt, had a certain weight to it. Baxian wasn’t there to make an enemy out of him; in fact, his approach to life was unexpectedly simple.

Meanwhile, Bryce’s conversation with Hunt took a more intimate turn. Their exchange, flirtatious and filled with raw desire, revealed the emotional and physical longing that neither of them could ignore. Despite the distance and limitations placed on them, the yearning between them was palpable. It was clear that this connection, despite being fragmented by their circumstances, was deep and intense.

The moment was electric for both, and as Bryce explored the vulnerability of their situation, she found herself craving more of him—both emotionally and physically. Their shared conversation, filled with teasing and innuendo, transcended the physical distance between them. There was no denying the chemistry, no hiding the undeniable pull that drew them closer, despite the physical and emotional barriers they had to navigate.

However, as Tharion’s report to the River Queen unfolded, a more somber tone settled over the narrative. The River Queen, with her detached approach to life and death, demonstrated a different kind of power—a cold, calculating force that operated within the confines of the system that kept her and others like her in control. Tharion’s growing unease with the soul-recycling system was evident, his frustration mounting as he realized that the rebellion he sought might only shift the balance of power, not eliminate it.

Tharion’s internal conflict grew as he questioned whether fighting for change was worth it if it only replaced one tyrant with another. He wasn’t sure if the world he sought could be achieved through the current rebellion—or if it was even the right way to go about it. His thoughts about Emile Renast, his search for answers, and his frustrations with the River Queen hinted at larger, more complex issues that were bound to affect everyone involved.

As the day wore on, both Hunt and Tharion found themselves at crossroads in their respective journeys—one seeking connection, the other seeking truth.

CHAPTER 41 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Bryce is struggling to control her powers under Cormac's instruction, particularly when it comes to teleportation and summoning shadows. Despite her efforts, she's unable to access her magic fully. Ruhn reflects on the past week, noting the lack of news on their enemies and the disappearance of Emile. Cormac has been preoccupied with finding the boy, but without success. The atmosphere feels tense due to the unsettling quiet from their adversaries.

Meanwhile, Declan has been analyzing footage of Danika at the gallery, and he finds something intriguing: Danika had been photographing a book titled Wolves Through Time: Lineage of the Shifters. The book appears to be an old manuscript that might contain important information, and Jesiba, a key character, is involved in this mystery. They discover that the book contains a family tree linking the Fendyr lineage, going back to ancient times, but there are gaps in the history, particularly around two names—Niklaus Fendyr and Faris Hvellen—that Danika seemed particularly interested in.

Bryce follows up with the Prime, a mysterious ancient wolf, seeking information about these names. The Prime reveals that these names have been deliberately erased from history. This clue leads Bryce to a deeper mystery about her own past and the Fendyr lineage.

CHAPTER 42 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce’s day begins with tension and an unresolved friendship. As she walks to Celestina’s office, her phone rings with a message from Juniper. Bryce, hoping it’s nothing serious, listens to Juniper’s furious voicemail, which accuses Bryce of sabotaging her promotion. Juniper’s anger stems from Bryce calling Gorgyn and using her position to ensure Juniper’s advancement. Juniper feels betrayed, as she believes Bryce’s actions have overshadowed her hard work and turned her achievement into a political move. This conversation leaves Bryce feeling guilty, but she pushes forward, knowing she has an important meeting with Celestina.

At Celestina’s office, Bryce presents a formal request for Hunt Athalar’s temporary return. Celestina, acknowledging the complexity of Bryce’s situation, agrees to send Hunt to Bryce’s family after some time. They share a lighter moment when Bryce talks about her overprotective mother, and Celestina reflects on her own experiences with relationships and community pressures. After their conversation, Bryce makes a call to Fury, who confirms that Juniper is devastated and advises Bryce to give her time to cool down before attempting reconciliation.

Bryce arrives at Hunt’s room, where she finds him freshly returned from the gym. Despite her internal conflict over Juniper, Bryce kisses Hunt passionately, preparing to share the news that Hunt will be accompanying her on a trip. She teases him about packing for a vacation, though it’s clear they have serious matters to attend to. As the couple shares a playful, intimate moment, Bryce is interrupted by Pollux and the Hind, a deadly and enigmatic figure. Despite the unsettling encounter, Bryce focuses on her relationship with Hunt, planning to tell him everything the next morning.

Meanwhile, Ithan receives a call from the Prime of Wolves, a figure he has never interacted with. The conversation reveals that Ithan has been removed from his pack by Sabine, and his loyalty is questioned due to his actions during a previous attack. The Prime offers Ithan a chance to lead his own pack, but Ithan is conflicted, unsure of his next move, especially with Sabine’s influence. The conversation leaves Ithan contemplating his future, caught between his past actions and a new opportunity to lead....he couldn’t help but feel disturbed by the overwhelming presence of that pain. He didn’t know who or what was behind it, but something inside him rebelled against the idea of anyone being subjected to that kind of treatment.

Ruhn fought to clear his head, pushing away the sensation that still lingered like an imprint on his body. There had to be a reason why she was feeling it, why her mind was ensnared in such a moment. He focused on the connection, his mind racing to figure out how to reach her.

"Day!" he called out, desperately trying to find her through the shadows, but there was nothing. She was gone, leaving behind only the distant echoes of her struggle. The wall of black adamant, a barrier in the dream bridge, remained, refusing to let him pass through.

His frustration mounted. He could feel the connection slipping further away, her presence fading like the last vestiges of a dream. What had she been trying to tell him? What had caused her to retreat so suddenly? Had it been the trauma of the moment, or was there something deeper at play here?

For now, there was only silence. The bridge, once alive with potential answers, stood still. All he could do was wait and try to make sense of the fragments left behind, but the more he thought, the more disoriented he became. Something had shifted, and it was clear that they were all caught in the middle of something far greater than themselves.

Meanwhile, the other characters continued on their respective paths, each wrapped in their own struggles, secrets, and desires, unknowingly entwined in a larger game that none of them fully understood.

Tharion, heading into his solo mission, knew that this was just the beginning. The River Queen’s orders were clear, but his own suspicions and the weight of his duty bore down on him. Emile’s power was not something that could easily be controlled, and Tharion wasn’t sure how much longer he could stand in the way of forces greater than himself. As he prepared for what was to come, he couldn’t shake the feeling that everything was about to change.

Back with Ithan, the situation remained tense as he grappled with his desire to help the mysterious female wolf. He knew that whatever he did, it wouldn’t be enough to change the reality of her captivity. Yet, the wolf’s silent plea, her unspoken strength, haunted him. Would he ever be able to free her, or was she doomed to remain a prisoner of the mystics' cruel designs?

As the threads of fate intertwined, each character's journey was set on a collision course, where loyalty, power, and love would be tested in ways none of them could foresee.

CHAPTER 43 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, the group arrives at a remote location on the Coronal Island of Ydra, where a cargo ship is unloading contraband in a hidden sea cave. The crew, including Hunt, Tharion, Ruhn, and Bryce, is still recovering from a teleporting journey, with some of them feeling physically unsettled. Tharion humorously comments on his seasickness, and Hunt is seen struggling with his own discomfort.

Cormac arrives and informs them of the situation: Pippa Spetsos, a member of the rebel faction they're dealing with, has already taken control of the Valbaran front and has everyone under her influence, including the weapons they were hoping to secure. There’s no immediate information about Emile or Sofie, but Cormac is cautious, not wanting to expose their true intentions.

As the team proceeds to inspect the ship, they encounter a tense interaction with Pippa, who gives Hunt a direct order to analyze a mysterious prototype inside a metal box. The box is a high-tech military weapon, and Pippa reveals it’s designed by the Asteri for Vanir pilots. Hunt recognizes that the metal used in the suit is similar to gorsian stones, which are known for their destructive properties. There is an undercurrent of tension between Pippa and the others, particularly Cormac, as Pippa’s manipulative nature becomes apparent.

The chapter builds up to a confrontation where Pippa’s motives and the true nature of the prototype are revealed, setting the stage for further conflicts.

Bryce's heart pounded as the cave erupted in chaos around them. The explosion of the truck had ignited a firestorm, and the rebels were scrambling, shouting, and retreating in every direction. The thick smoke and debris filled the air, making it difficult to see.

Hunt’s grip tightened on her as he guided her through the swirling confusion, his wings cutting through the chaos with deadly precision. Ruhn stayed close, keeping a protective stance, while Tharion stayed behind, scanning for any sign of Pippa.

But Pippa was gone, slipping away into the shadows with the rebels. The plan was falling apart, but one thing was certain: the stakes had just been raised.

“Time to go,” Hunt urged again, his voice cutting through the noise. He motioned for them to follow. Tharion hesitated one last time, his eyes narrowed with determination.

“I’m not chasing that psycho,” he growled, turning his back on the mess. “She’s already got what she wanted. Let her run.”

Bryce nodded, her eyes sharp as she glanced around. The mission was a disaster, but they had to regroup. There was no telling how many rebels had escaped with their new weapons or what the next move would be.

As they rushed out of the cave, the distant sound of sirens and the crackle of gunfire followed them, a reminder of just how close they were to something much larger than they could have ever imagined.

The stakes were high, and the enemy was getting stronger by the day.

Hunt looked at Bryce with a fierce, determined look. "This isn't over."

CHAPTER 44 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce and her group are under threat from the Hind and her allies as they try to escape on a boat. Cormac is injured, and Bryce struggles with her teleportation ability, knowing that it might end in disaster. Tensions rise as the Hind's forces, including Omega-boats, close in. Tharion, a mer, uses his powers to help them escape into the water, but their boat is destroyed by a torpedo, leaving them stranded.

As they float in the open water, Ruhn realizes the magnitude of their situation: Omega-boats and the Hind's group are closing in. Bryce proposes blinding the enemy with her light, but Hunt warns it might expose them. When the Hind approaches on a wave skimmer, taunting them, it becomes clear she’s toying with them. The Hind reveals she has proof of their treachery and threatens them, hinting at her deadly intent. She tosses a white stone into the ocean, daring them to follow her or face the dangers of the seafloor. The group is forced to make a choice.

As tensions reach a boiling point, Hunt prepares to unleash his full power, with Bryce ready to use her light to blind the Hind. The chapter ends with the group caught in a deadly standoff, unsure of who will survive and what the Hind's next move will be.

CHAPTER 45 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ithan and his friends, including Marc, Flynn, and Declan, are grappling with the fallout of Ithan’s decision to steal fire sprites from the Astronomer’s lair. While Ithan is adamant about rescuing a trapped woman, Marc and the others are wary of the legal repercussions, especially since fire sprites are valuable and the theft could be deemed a serious crime. The group debates what to do, with Ithan admitting he acted impulsively, fueled by anger.

Things take a wild turn when the box containing the sprites rattles, and the group is forced to release them. Despite Marc’s concerns, Flynn cracks open the rings containing the sprites. The last one, a fiery, angry female, breaks free with a powerful burst of flames. Her arrival is intense, and the group is stunned to see a full-sized, smoldering female form appear on the coffee table. Her fiery appearance is dangerous, and she warns Flynn that someone will come after him for releasing her. Despite the tension, Flynn remains undeterred and quips about a dragon owing him a debt.

Meanwhile, Ruhn and his crew are on a stealth ship, navigating toward the Ravel Canyon. The ship is powered by the Ocean Queen’s magic, making it nearly undetectable to enemy vessels. As they discuss their plans, Ruhn and Tharion are impressed by the ship’s abilities. They come face-to-face with an enemy Omega-boat, the Faustus, a feared imperial warship that has taken down rebel ships before. However, due to the ship's camouflage, the Omega-boat passes them without noticing. The crew is relieved, but Sendes reminds them to keep their presence confidential, hinting at an uneasy alliance and potential future consequences.

CHAPTER 46 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this intense scene, Bryce and Hunt are navigating both external and internal struggles as their surroundings shift into a lush, mystical garden. Despite the chaos, their connection intensifies as they share an intimate moment, blending their powers and emotions. Bryce, confident and taunting, initiates the encounter by stripping, revealing her beauty and dominance in the situation. Hunt, overwhelmed by his magic and desire, follows suit, but he struggles with his need to protect her and not hurt her in the process.

Their physical connection amplifies their powers, with lightning and starlight flowing between them, creating an almost otherworldly experience. The intimacy is charged with raw emotion, as they explore each other both physically and emotionally, expressing trust and love in the midst of their turmoil. The scene culminates in an intense, passionate moment where they both release their pent-up emotions, solidifying their bond.

However, their intimate connection is abruptly interrupted when they find themselves in an airlock, their previous surroundings disappearing. The shift from the garden to this stark, unfamiliar space marks a sharp contrast in their environment, signaling that their journey is far from over, and they must face whatever comes next. The scene ends with an introduction to new characters, adding layers to the ongoing story.

CHAPTER 47 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In a morgue, Bryce stands by the doorway, observing Cormac, who kneels beside Sofie's body, a victim of the rebels' conflict. Cormac is visibly devastated, his emotions raw as he mourns her death. He regrets not having been there for Sofie when he could have been. Bryce, feeling the weight of the moment, wonders about Sofie's soul and its fate. As Cormac tenderly touches Sofie's lifeless hand, the group begins to discover new clues about the mysterious markings on her body—numbers and letters carved into her arm, possibly a distress signal or a message from someone trying to save her.

Tharion, while analyzing Sofie's coroner files, questions whether the numbers have any significant meaning, but no one knows for sure. Cormac is determined to uncover the truth, even as the group contemplates their next steps in the rebel struggle, dealing with enemies like the Hind and Ophion.

The group discusses their options and plans, with Bryce proposing a course of action, including dealing with the rebels, the safety of their families, and ensuring that Sofie’s death won’t be in vain. Despite everything, the tension rises as the political intrigue around the Asteri and various factions deepens. Cormac, reflecting on his own actions, is determined to keep searching for answers, even if it means challenging those in power.

Meanwhile, Tharion, still dealing with his own internal conflicts, continues his uneasy journey with the merfolk, facing the moral dilemma of whether to betray Cormac and steal Sofie's body, all while trying to piece together the complex web of alliances and power struggles. His contemplation deepens as he considers his role in this rebellion and the impact of the choices ahead.

As the Depth Charger ship travels toward Lunathion, Ruhn struggles with the uncertainty of what lies ahead. The fate of their group remains unclear, and Bryce, ever determined, remains focused on vengeance and ensuring they make their enemies pay for all they've endured.

PART 3 THE PIT

CHAPTER 48 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this scene, Ruhn is pacing while speaking with Dec on the phone, confirming that there is no information on the mysterious numbers and letters found on Sofie’s arm. Bryce, Hunt, and Ruhn are discussing their next steps. They are trying to make sense of the situation involving Sofie’s death, the Hind’s possible motives, and the hidden intel that Sofie might have known.

Bryce is still trying to master teleportation but is struggling with it. Meanwhile, Hunt, after his call with Isaiah, is convinced that the Hind is playing a long game and waiting to see how they react. Bryce suspects that the Hind knows more than they realize, possibly linking Sofie’s death to a larger conspiracy, but they are all left with more questions than answers.

Their conversation is interrupted by Baxian, a Helhound, who barges in and reveals that he wants in on whatever they are planning. He’s aware of their actions against Ophion and is offering his help, but Bryce and Hunt are suspicious of his true intentions. Baxian tries to use the threat of betrayal and the Asteri to coerce them, but they remain cautious. He leaves the apartment, hinting that they may need him for answers down the line.

After his departure, the group is left contemplating their next move, with Bryce and Hunt sharing a quiet moment, but their peace is disrupted when Bryce is confronted with the mention of Emile, and Hunt’s fury about her sending the kid to the Viper Queen.

CHAPTER 49 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn returns from a mission to find his roommates, Flynn, Dec, and Ithan, eagerly awaiting updates. Flynn is particularly excited about a new living situation, introducing a trio of fire sprites—Rithi, Sasa, and Malana—and a mysterious new roommate, Ariadne, who is revealed to be a dragon. Ruhn is shocked by the unexpected addition of a dragon and questions his roommates about the legality of the arrangement.

Meanwhile, Hunt and Bryce are in the Meat Market, navigating their way through Fae guards and discussing the details of Emile's situation. Hunt reveals that Bryce had been involved in getting Emile to the Viper Queen, but Bryce expresses regret over the deaths that resulted from her decision. They discuss the dangers of Emile's powers, with Bryce confirming that he doesn't have any, contrary to what everyone had believed.

Bryce shares a heartfelt moment with Emile, assuring him that his worth is not tied to his powers. Hunt realizes that Bryce had carefully crafted a story to protect Emile, and he is troubled by the Viper Queen’s lack of concern for Emile’s well-being. The chapter ends with Bryce reaffirming her protective stance toward Emile, even if it means lying about his abilities to keep him safe.

CHAPTER 50 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this section, Bryce and Hunt are investigating the connections between Danika and Sofie. Emile reveals that Danika used her Vanir powers to track down Sofie, a human or someone who passed as one, because Sofie could do things Danika couldn’t due to being too recognizable. However, Emile doesn’t know what exactly Danika needed Sofie for. Bryce also shows Emile a piece of evidence found on Sofie's body, but Emile has no answers.

After a tense conversation, they decide to protect Emile from the Viper Queen, who might soon figure out that he has no powers. Bryce plans to send him to safety with Fury Axtar, someone she trusts. As she arranges for Emile’s relocation, she reassures him that he will be safe and even gives him a new identity as part of her family.

Later, Bryce meets with her brother Ruhn, who urgently calls her to explain a situation involving a female mystic. This mystic, who seems to have been trapped in a ring, warns Bryce that she blazed with starlight. The situation escalates when Bryce learns about Ithan’s rash actions involving the mystics, and the conversation shifts to the memory of Lehabah, a fire sprite who sacrificed herself for Bryce. The sprites reveal the importance of Lehabah’s lineage, as she was connected to the royal Drahl family, and Bryce is left grappling with the loss of her brave friend.

CHAPTER 51 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Hunt is struggling with his emotions after realizing Bryce is deeply involved in something bigger, with Danika somehow connected. However, he pushes aside his frustrations to focus on urgent matters. His first priority is maintaining the facade of normalcy by meeting Celestina, ensuring the Hind hasn’t revealed anything to the Archangel.

During their meeting, Celestina congratulates Hunt on his mating bond with Bryce, which Hunt awkwardly confirms. He shares a fabricated story about visiting Bryce's family, adding details about her mother Ember’s tension with the Fae. Celestina, appearing pleased and unsuspecting, assigns Hunt to analyze reports of increasing demon activity near the Northern Rift. Hunt, however, is preoccupied with concerns about Hel's possible movements and Apollion's ominous warnings.

Hunt's next encounter is with the Hind, whom he finds in the barracks bathroom applying makeup. Their interaction is tense, with the Hind deflecting his questions about her intentions. She teases him before leaving cryptically, hinting at something shocking near the Angels’ Gate. Hunt discovers the brutal aftermath—a pair of rebel corpses, blood-eagled and displayed as a gruesome warning. He is horrified by the Harpy's cruelty and questions whether Celestina condoned it out of support or necessity.

Elsewhere, Ruhn breathes a sigh of relief after learning from Hunt that the immediate danger has passed. Despite the strange events involving sprites and a dragon in his home, Ruhn shifts his attention to an unexpected visitor: Queen Hypaxia, who arrives with a faint smile and a broom in hand.

CHAPTER 52 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Tharion delivered his report to the River Queen in the depths of the river. She lounged on a bed of oysters, trailing her fingers over their ridges as they spoke about the Ocean Queen’s fleet of six massive ships. Tharion explained how he had learned of them while pursuing Emile Renast, noting that the Ocean Queen’s secrecy made it difficult to glean further details. However, the River Queen, paranoid about her sister’s potential betrayal, ordered Tharion to investigate the ships further, convinced they might one day be used against her. Tharion wisely diverted her attention by mentioning Emile and suggested continuing his hunt for the boy. Reluctantly, she agreed, dismissing him to the surface.

As Tharion emerged and dressed near the quay, he was startled by Hunt Athalar, who had been waiting for him. Hunt informed Tharion about a recent meeting with the Governor and handed him information regarding new demon activity near Nena, suggesting it might be of interest to the Blue Court.

Meanwhile, Ruhn Danaan found himself face-to-face with Hypaxia Enador, his fiancĂ©e and the queen of the witches. Her elegant and calm demeanor contrasted sharply with his messy, bachelor lifestyle. Hypaxia requested a private escort during her stay in Lunathion for the Governors’ celebration. She revealed her distrust toward her late mother’s coven, who had become estranged from her due to her necromantic abilities and unorthodox upbringing. Ruhn, despite his reservations, agreed to provide her with a discreet escort to protect her from potential threats, particularly from her coven.

As the conversation turned personal, Hypaxia admitted the political challenges she faced, including whispers about replacing her with her sister, Lidia, who lacked witch abilities but was seen as a safer choice by the coven. Hypaxia explained her concerns about their alignment with the Asteri and the risk it posed to their autonomy. Ruhn assured her of his support and promised to ensure her safety during her time in the city, even jokingly suggesting that she might find his chosen escort—likely one of his friends—unorthodox.

CHAPTER 53 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ithan Holstrom overhears a crucial conversation downstairs involving Ruhn and Hypaxia. Despite his best efforts to keep his impatience in check, Hypaxia, the witch-queen, notices his unease and invites him to speak. Ithan requests her help as a necromancer to contact his deceased brother, Connor, in the Bone Quarter. Hypaxia agrees, offering to perform a ritual during the Autumnal Equinox when the veil between realms is thinnest. Ithan feels both hope and dread at the possibility of warning his brother about the sinister fate awaiting souls in the Bone Quarter.

Ruhn also asks Hypaxia if she’s willing to have a dragon accompany her for protection. Though she expresses doubt, she listens to Ithan’s thoughts, valuing his perspective. Their conversation leaves Ithan with a bittersweet sense of gratitude toward Ruhn, whom he now sees as someone unexpectedly supportive.

Meanwhile, Bryce tries to avoid returning home by staying late at the archives. However, she encounters Hunt Athalar waiting for her. Their earlier argument still lingers, creating tension as they interact. Hunt requests her help to access the archives after hours, needing to research newly translated Fae texts about ancient demons linked to Hel. While Bryce teases Hunt, attempting to break the ice, their conversation shifts to the demons’ movements and Hel’s potential plans.

Hunt expresses frustration over Hel’s growing activity and warns Bryce about the ongoing interest in her, particularly concerning the Horn embedded in her back. Their banter intensifies into flirtation, leading them to steal a private moment among the archive stacks. Amid their intimacy, Hunt apologizes for his earlier behavior, admitting he felt rattled by Bryce’s lack of trust in him. Bryce apologizes in turn, explaining her hesitance was born from uncertainty about his agreement with her risky decisions.

As their vulnerability deepens, Hunt seeks clarity on how Bryce pieced together critical information about Emile and the Viper Queen. Bryce explains her reasoning, which relied on the queen's uncanny ability to track through the marshes. Hunt, touched by her forgiveness and renewed trust, kisses her gently. Their connection rekindles, reaffirming their partnership amidst the chaos surrounding them.

CHAPTER 54 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce begins her day at the Crescent City archives, balancing her third coffee and a phone call with her mother, Ember. They discuss Cooper, a young boy her parents recently adopted. Cooper hasn't attended school in years, and while he hasn’t shared much about his traumatic past, Ember is allowing him time to open up. Their conversation turns warm and lighthearted, with Ember suggesting a mother-daughter skiing trip, though neither of them skis. This moment of connection is cut short when the Autumn King unexpectedly arrives at the archives.

The Autumn King, Bryce's father, confronts her about her relationship with Hunt Athalar and the political implications of her mating bond. He criticizes her for using the royal Fae name, "Bryce Danaan," which she unknowingly invoked in official dealings. The King reveals that he has legally formalized her as a Princess of the Fae, a move that disgusts Bryce and ties her closer to his influence. Their tense exchange is filled with barbed words, accusations, and Bryce's fiery defiance. The King leaves, ominously hinting that he shares her goal of uncovering "the truth."

Later, Bryce struggles to process her new royal status. She receives a folder containing documents confirming her name change, a new credit card linked to her father's wealth, and other markers of her unwanted title. Overwhelmed, she seeks solace by calling Hypaxia, the witch-queen. They meet casually at a food stall, accompanied by Ithan, who serves as Hypaxia's watchful guard.

Bryce and Hypaxia bond during their conversation. Bryce thanks Hypaxia for her past help in removing Hunt's halo and saving him. The two women discuss their lives and struggles, offering a moment of solidarity amidst the chaos. Hypaxia remarks on Bryce's bond with Hunt, noting the permanence of their relationship, which Bryce confirms with quiet pride.

This chapter underscores the tension between Bryce's personal desires and the political games surrounding her. The growing camaraderie between Bryce and Hypaxia hints at alliances that may prove crucial in the battles ahead.

CHAPTER 55 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce didn’t have time to react when the demon lunged at Ithan, ripping out his throat and devouring a chunk of his flesh. Blood sprayed everywhere as Ithan’s body hit the ground, twitching and dying. Bryce was frozen in shock, unable to move, as Hypaxia ordered her to get up. Bryce’s mind screamed in denial—she couldn’t lose another friend.

The demon was a terrifying creature with matte gray scales, a muscular body, and a spiked tail that gouged the stone around them. As people fled the scene, a second demon appeared, trapping Bryce and Hypaxia between them. Hypaxia, calm and steady, instructed Bryce to stand back-to-back with her, but they were armed with only one knife. Bryce spotted Ithan’s gun on his lifeless body but doubted its effectiveness against such swift creatures.

Desperate, Bryce asked Hypaxia if she could use her magic to charge her, much like Hunt’s lightning had done in the past. Though confused, Hypaxia complied, placing her glowing hand on Bryce’s chest. The energy surged into Bryce, stars erupting in her mind, giving her just enough power to teleport. She used it to grab Ithan’s gun, killing the first demon with a precise shot to the head. The second demon proved more challenging, dodging bullets and closing in on her.

Bryce pushed her limits, teleporting repeatedly to evade the demon. Hypaxia, meanwhile, used her broom to position herself above the creature. With one final, calculated leap, Hypaxia plunged her dagger into the demon’s skull, killing it instantly.

As Bryce’s adrenaline ebbed, she rushed to Ithan’s side, finding his throat slowly healing. Hypaxia knelt beside him, using her healing magic to stabilize him, just as the Aux and angels, including Isaiah and Hunt, arrived. Hunt explained that the creatures were deathstalkers, personal pets of the Prince of the Pit, last seen in Nena. Their appearance in the city was alarming, suggesting Hel’s forces were testing them.

At the witches’ embassy, Hypaxia ensured Ithan received proper care. Hunt scolded Bryce for her recklessness, reminding her of the danger they faced. Bryce revealed that her teleportation had worked thanks to Hypaxia’s magic. Despite their victory, they realized the attack might have been part of a larger scheme involving Hel or even Hypaxia’s enemies. Bryce vowed to remain armed and prepared, though Hunt and Ruhn reminded her how narrowly she’d escaped death.

CHAPTER 56 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ithan awoke in a gilded room, his body aching from the attack. Hypaxia, seated beside him, assured him he was safe, explaining they were at her embassy. Ithan struggled with guilt over being ambushed, blaming himself for failing to protect Hypaxia and Bryce. Hypaxia informed him that Ariadne, the dragon he had tried to protect, fled the moment Hypaxia entered the pizza shop, avoiding detection by the city cameras. Hypaxia defended Ariadne’s decision, highlighting that as a creature of freedom, Ariadne was never meant to be enslaved. Despite agreeing with her, Ithan couldn’t shake his feelings of failure.

When Ithan inquired about the attack, Hypaxia explained it was a deadly demon, prompting him to apologize for his perceived inadequacy. Hypaxia reassured him, expressing her suspicion that his friends likely knew more about the attack's motives than they let on. Changing the subject, Ithan sought Hypaxia’s help to contact his brother, Connor, on the Autumnal Equinox and free a wolf mystic enslaved by the Astronomer. Hypaxia sympathized but admitted her limitations in helping the mystic, leaving Ithan determined to find another way.

Flynn, Declan, and Tharion arrived to check on Ithan, offering lighthearted banter that contrasted with Ithan’s self-criticism. Their camaraderie and genuine concern touched him deeply, reminding him of the support he had missed since Connor’s death. Flynn and Declan dismissed his doubts about their friendship, offering humor and loyalty instead. As Hypaxia left the room, granting him a day off, Ithan reflected on her quiet strength, her unspoken heartbreak, and the bond he shared with his new friends.

Meanwhile, Bryce and Ruhn discussed the ramifications of recent events. Bryce dismissed the idea of a security detail, despite Ruhn’s protective instincts, and vowed to handle her new title as princess on her terms. She resolved to use her position to confront their father and his demands, determined to reshape the game to her advantage.

Elsewhere, Hypaxia confided in Tharion about her disdain for the Dreadwolves patrolling the Old Square, their presence suffocating the lively city atmosphere. Despite her annoyance, Tharion’s teasing provided a moment of levity, hinting at the unspoken bond between the queen and the mer. Hypaxia’s regal exterior gave way to vulnerability, revealing the weight she bore as both a leader and a healer.

CHAPTER 57 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Hunt and Bryce returned to her apartment, the tension of recent events weighing heavily on them. Hunt, grappling with the revelation that he was now considered a prince, focused his concern on Bryce. She, visibly shaken, admitted her distress over being ensnared by the Autumn King’s manipulative schemes. Bryce tearfully confessed her feelings of helplessness, fearing she’d lost her freedom and become nothing more than a tool in her father’s machinations. Hunt, furious on her behalf, comforted her, vowing to stand by her and fight for their future together. Despite her despair, Bryce revealed a plan, though she warned Hunt it might not be to his liking.

Elsewhere, Ruhn found himself at the mental couch once more, speaking with Day. The tension between them lingered after their previous argument, but Day apologized, acknowledging her harshness. Their conversation shifted to leadership, with Day describing the qualities of a good leader—empathy, understanding, and justice—qualities Ruhn doubted he possessed. Their dialogue grew more personal, with Day admitting she considered Ruhn her only friend in a world full of enemies.

When Day mentioned the upcoming Autumnal Equinox ball, Ruhn proposed meeting her there, a masked event that would conceal their identities. Despite her initial hesitation, Day agreed, and they established a secret code to recognize each other: he would call her "Day," and she would respond with "Night." As their connection deepened, Ruhn promised to wait for her at the ball, yearning to finally see the face behind the flames. Day, equally torn, accepted his request, their parting words sealing the promise: midnight at the fountain.

CHAPTER 58 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Two weeks later, Hunt struggled to adjust the stiff bow tie of his tuxedo, grumbling at Bryce's insistence on wearing something "normal" instead of his battle suit. Despite his discomfort, he prepared to attend the Autumn King's party, reluctantly carrying a golden mask to match his formal attire. Bryce had endured an array of restrictive commands from her father regarding her appearance and behavior, including not eating in public, all in the name of Fae propriety. However, she found ways to rebel subtly, such as wearing the tiara on her wrist instead of her head.

When Hunt saw Bryce in her stunning black gown with its plunging neckline and star-scarred chest, he was left speechless. Her beauty, amplified by her diamond accessories and bold red lips, captivated him. Though tempted to skip the event in favor of a private evening, they left together, with Bryce donning her tiara playfully. They made their way to the party, bracing for the formalities ahead.

Meanwhile, Ruhn attended the same event as Hypaxia's escort, grappling with thoughts of his mysterious Day. While navigating the conservatory's opulent decorations and stringent security measures, he searched for her among the masked attendees. As Bryce arrived with Cormac and Hunt, their presence drew attention—both admiring and disapproving. Hunt's stoic demeanor as the "Umbra Mortis" belied the tension in the room, particularly when Bryce made her boldest move yet.

Before the Archangels, Bryce introduced Hunt as her mate and a Prince of the Fae, effectively forcing the Autumn King to acknowledge their bond publicly. Her declaration stunned the gathering, leaving the Autumn King seething but unable to contradict her without causing a scene. Celestina, clearly amused, offered her blessings, solidifying Hunt and Bryce's union in the eyes of all present.

The evening shifted as Bryce and Hunt navigated the aftermath of her announcement, defying expectations and seizing control of their narrative. Though the tension simmered, their love and defiance shone brilliantly, a testament to their unyielding bond in a world eager to constrain them.

CHAPTER 59 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Bryce stands before the Asteri, the most powerful beings in the galaxy, with Hunt by her side. She had planned for this night to make her union with Hunt official, to thwart her father's plans to marry her off to Cormac. The Asteri, observing the events, acknowledge Bryce and Hunt as a couple, with the Autumn King presenting them to the Asteri, his disapproval evident. Bryce tries to maintain her composure despite the tension, aware of the dangerous consequences for her family and herself.

As the Asteri grant their approval, Bryce and Hunt share a quiet victory in front of the crowd. Bryce, overwhelmed by the moment, suggests they dance, leading to a tender moment between the two as they share a deep connection. Hunt confesses that everything he's been through has led him to this moment with her, and Bryce reciprocates, affirming that she belongs to him.

Meanwhile, Ruhn and Hypaxia are seen dancing together. Hypaxia seeks out her estranged sister, the Hind, to address their complicated relationship. The Hind, however, remains cold and dismissive, making it clear she has little interest in reconciliation.

The chapter underscores the complex dynamics of power, family, and personal desires, with Bryce and Hunt's relationship taking center stage as they navigate the treacherous world of politics and rebellion.

CHAPTER 60 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn, deep in thought, realizes it isn't Daybright he's seeing, but the Harpy. He is relieved, but her presence means trouble. He must avoid drawing suspicion, especially from the Hind, who might have been tailing him. He decides to leave the garden quickly, avoiding further complications. As he retreats back into the party, the tension rises when the Hind watches him silently. The encounter with the Harpy and Hind nearly exposes his secret meeting, leaving him shaken.

Meanwhile, Hunt and Bryce sneak off into a cloakroom, eager for some time alone. They struggle with a locked door, but Hunt's strength solves the problem. Inside, their heated moment is interrupted by an unexpected sight: Celestina and Hypaxia in a compromising position, which catches them off guard. Bryce and Hunt handle the situation with humor and discretion, promising to keep the secret. Celestina, the powerful Archangel, warns them about the dangerous consequences of crossing paths with the Asteri, and Bryce reassures her that they will remain silent.

The encounter forces a moment of introspection in Hunt, who acknowledges the line between power and enslavement in his own life. The complex relationships between these characters unfold, hinting at their deep struggles, power dynamics, and secrets.

Tharion, meanwhile, grows increasingly impatient at the ball, escorting the River Queen’s daughter, who is captivated by the festivities. As the night drags on, Tharion’s thoughts turn to the clock, waiting for the moment he can escort her home and end the exhausting evening. The situation is a reminder of his role and responsibilities, highlighting the strained nature of his interactions.

CHAPTER 61 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

As the clock nears 3:30 AM, Ithan checks on Hypaxia, who had left the party earlier due to stomach cramps. She looks pale, and despite the lively sounds of the revelry nearby, she focuses on the ritual she's performing with seven candles. Hypaxia explains that the six-pointed star formed by the candles represents balance—male and female, light and dark—and where their powers converge. She warns Ithan to stay on her side of the circle as she begins a chant. Meanwhile, Ruhn, still reeling from the events earlier, feels a deep sense of regret for potentially endangering Day. He tries to apologize, but Day reveals that she was watching him the whole time. They share an intimate conversation about their pasts, with Day acknowledging Ruhn's pain and the weight of his father’s legacy. They share a passionate kiss before Day disappears, leaving Ruhn in a mix of longing and confusion.

Later, Hunt and Bryce return to their apartment after leaving the party. Bryce, tipsy, reflects on the chaos of the night, especially after learning some disturbing truths. Hunt, still drunk, admits that he liked being at the party with her, as it marked a public acknowledgment of their relationship. He shares that his previous relationship with Shahar never allowed such a thing, and they bond over the idea of being seen together. The conversation turns playful as they discuss marriage and rings, with Hunt joking about buying one for her. The evening ends on a more intimate note as their playful banter leads to physical closeness, and the night takes a sensual turn.

CHAPTER 62 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Hypaxia's chants intensified as the full moon rose higher, its silver light flooding the orchard. Ithan felt the air grow colder, realizing it wasn't the night but the magic Hypaxia was weaving that had brought the chill. Hypaxia, with her arms raised, whispered of a presence approaching. Ithan's mind raced as he prepared himself for a reunion with his brother's spirit, feeling a strange mix of pride and dread. The six-pointed star Hypaxia had drawn began to glow faintly, but as she warned of the star’s weakening power, a surge of light erupted from it. A wind whipped through the trees, and when it cleared, Ithan's stomach dropped at the sight of a tall, robed figure—the Under-King. He was not part of the summoning, but he had appeared nonetheless.

Despite Hypaxia's demands for him to leave, the Under-King mocked them, warning that their meddling with such powers was dangerous. He turned his attention to Ithan, speaking cryptically about his brother’s fate. The air grew thick with tension as Ithan demanded to speak to his brother, but the Under-King was not forthcoming. He proposed a "game" instead, revealing that the House of Flame and Shadow had an interest in Hypaxia’s abilities. Ithan stood tense, hand inching toward his weapon, though he knew it would be useless against the creature. The Under-King reassured him, saying he couldn’t harm them there, but his sinister grin suggested otherwise.

Meanwhile, Bryce found herself in a dream-like state, standing in a barren world under a cloudless sky. She was face to face with Apollion, the Prince of the Pit, who revealed that the land she stood on was what remained of Parthos. He explained that this was a dream, and during their conversation, Bryce learned startling truths about Aidas, the Prince of the Chasm. Apollion spoke of the Starborn Queen, Theia, who had been Aidas’s lover—an ally against the Asteri, whom Apollion had killed in his rage. This revelation shook Bryce, especially since Aidas had never mentioned it. Apollion warned her that she was blind to the dangers ahead and urged her to use the Horn of power to open the doors to Hel, threatening war. But Bryce, resolute, refused.

Back in the orchard, Ithan and Hypaxia faced the lingering threat of the Under-King's wards, which had transformed their surroundings into a labyrinth. As they prepared to move, the eerie sound of hunting hounds filled the air, and Ithan’s senses alerted him to the danger lurking in the trees. Hypaxia confirmed their fear: the hounds of the House of Flame and Shadow were closing in. With magic at the ready, she and Ithan braced themselves for the fight ahead.

CHAPTER 63 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

The chapter opens with Bryce ranting about a micromanaging nightmare while training with Hunt, Ruhn, Declan, and Cormac at the Aux training center. During this, Bryce reflects on the potential alliance between Theia and Hel during the war and her growing frustration with her teleporting powers. As the group practices, Bryce struggles with controlling her teleportation, failing to sustain it. Declan offers insights into her powers, explaining that they depend on energy sources, like firstlight, and need to be built up. Hunt supports her, but Bryce’s strength falters, especially when trying to balance energy use and teleportation.

Meanwhile, Cormac pushes for information about Bryce's plans, even though she is trying to hide something about Emile. Tension rises as Cormac uses threatening methods, holding a knife to Bryce’s throat to force answers. Eventually, Bryce admits she found Emile at the Viper Queen's warehouse but that he's been moved to a safer place. Cormac, still enraged, attempts to find out more, but Bryce insists on keeping Emile hidden to protect him from the rebellion.

Cormac, realizing he can't control the situation, apologizes for his actions, and the group returns to their training. Tharion leaves, saying he has other matters to attend to with the River Queen. Bryce and Hunt continue their training, determined to improve her abilities despite the ongoing tension around Emile’s safety.

CHAPTER 64 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Tharion is in the Meat Market, trying to gather information while appearing casual. He listens to gossip about a woman, whom he assumes is connected to his investigation, and finds out about a dragon. Tharion is communicating with Hypaxia and is concerned about her situation. Meanwhile, he meets up with Flynn, and they head to a hidden door that leads to a chamber owned by the Viper Queen, a notorious figure in the market.

Inside, Tharion finds Ariadne, a dragon, who is under the Viper Queen’s control but had come seeking asylum. The Viper Queen explains that Ariadne is fighting in the pit, but Tharion wonders if he can convince her to work with him. The conversation reveals that Ariadne is tired of her circumstances, and the Viper Queen hints at further dealings, including the purchase of information. Tharion pushes for details about a commander named Pippa Spetsos, but the Viper Queen demands a price for any intel.

The chapter sets the stage for a tense negotiation and hints at complex dynamics between Tharion, Ariadne, and the Viper Queen.

Bryce, Hunt, Ruhn, and Hypaxia confront the Under-King, who reveals his involvement with the rebels, particularly Commander Pippa Spetsos, and his agreement with her to manipulate the war to his advantage. As tensions rise, the Under-King taunts Bryce, hinting at darker truths she will have to face as a princess. The group is soon under attack, with rebels outside the temple, led by Pippa. Bryce, desperate to escape, calls upon her powers, using Hunt's lightning to help charge herself up for a teleportation attempt. Though exhausted, Bryce successfully teleports, first bringing Hypaxia to safety, but struggles to take Ruhn with her. After a few tense moments, Bryce manages to teleport Ruhn as well. However, as they regroup, they find themselves trapped with the Lightfall soldiers closing in. Bryce, nearly drained, makes a bold move by broadcasting a false message to summon reinforcements. This gives them enough time for an escape plan, but not without cost. As the fighting intensifies, Bryce begins to show signs of physical strain, and her condition worsens. Despite her efforts, they are cornered again by the rebels, and just as things seem dire, Baxian arrives, leading them down a hidden stairwell to safety. This moment of hope is temporary as they realize the battle is far from over, and the true danger is yet to come.

CHAPTER 65 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Bryce confronts Baxian, accusing him of lying, while Baxian reveals the truth about his relationship with Danika. He claims they were mates and that Danika had kept it a secret, partly to protect him from Sandriel and the Asteri. Baxian shares that they met two years before her death when Danika was investigating shifter ancestry, and he reveals that Danika had been searching for an alternative to Sabine, who she feared would be a threat to the wolves' future. Danika had also been investigating something important in the Asteri archives, a secret that she couldn’t uncover before her death. Bryce is shaken, struggling with the reality that she had kept this hidden from her, especially given their close friendship. The conversation shifts to Sofie Renast, a thunderbird, who Danika had worked with on the Ophion project, using information Baxian had passed on about a secret room in the Asteri archives. Sofie had been investigating this room for years, and whatever she found there seemed to hold the key to something world-altering. Baxian's bitterness and guilt reflect his feelings about their secret relationship and Danika’s death. As Bryce and Hunt work with their team to uncover the truth, they are faced with a daunting question: what was in that secret room that could change everything?

CHAPTER 66 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Bryce meets with Fury at a dive bar to discuss the dangerous plan she is considering—breaking into the crystal palace archives to uncover the truth about what Danika suspected might be inside one of the rooms. Fury strongly discourages Bryce, warning her of the severe consequences she would face if she got caught, including harm to her family. Despite the risks, Bryce insists on the importance of knowing the truth, and Fury reluctantly agrees to help by providing some intel.

Meanwhile, Tharion has a tense conversation with his fiancée by the river. He admits that he wants to call off their betrothal, as he has no real affection for her. She reveals that she knew all along and had hoped he might change, but now she has given up. When Tharion refuses to go Beneath with her, she threatens to involve her mother, the River Queen, who will likely force him into submission.

Later, Ithan meets with the Prime at the Den, hoping to gain support for a mystic wolf he believes is being mistreated. Despite Sabine’s opposition, Ithan presses for help, invoking Danika’s name to appeal to the Prime’s sense of justice. As Ithan prepares to leave, the Prime reveals that Sabine isn’t the only Fendyr heir, which could complicate matters for Bryce and her investigation into the true heir.

CHAPTER 67 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Tharion makes a desperate decision to seek refuge with the Viper Queen, offering to defect to her in exchange for protection from the River Queen and a chance to avoid a life of breeding royal offspring. After a tense negotiation, the Viper Queen accepts his offer and marks his defection with a ritual involving her venomous blood, which changes Tharion on a deep, primal level. Though initially overwhelmed by the transformation, he survives, and she instructs him to rest before his first fight. Tharion is torn between his desire for freedom and the inevitable pull of the Viper Queen’s power over him. He leaves her lair but feels an invisible chain binding him to her.

Meanwhile, Ithan grapples with the revelation that the wolf mystic might be a Fendyr Alpha heir, a potential threat to the existing power structure, especially with Sabine, the Alpha. Ithan decides to stay behind to protect the mystic, determined to uncover the truth and safeguard her life, even at the cost of his own promises. He leaves a message for Bryce before shifting into his wolf form and heading to the Astronomer’s lair.

Ruhn faces a heartbreaking confrontation with Day, who tells him she can’t continue their relationship due to the dangers surrounding her. She fears for his safety because of the powerful male who controls her fate, vowing that she must remain focused on her purpose to survive. Despite her insistence on separating, Ruhn promises to find her, and they share a brief, emotional moment before she pulls away.

CHAPTER 68 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Ruhn is determined to rescue Day, and he argues with Bryce and Hunt about the plan to break into the Crystal Palace. Ruhn wants to go alone after Day, but Bryce insists that they all go in together, ensuring their safety and success. Hunt, despite his reservations, agrees to join them. They plan to create a distraction to divert the Asteri’s attention, with Cormac revealing that Pippa is planning a raid on the Pangeran lab, where the Asteri's new mech prototype is being developed. They decide to carry out the raid to lure Pippa and Ophion into a trap. Ruhn, Bryce, and Hunt prepare for the risky mission, and Bryce is emotionally affected as she reflects on the past, her friendships, and the uncertain future ahead. The chapter ends with Bryce reaching out to Juniper, apologizing for not being there when her friend needed her most.

CHAPTER 69 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Ruhn finds Cormac in a dive bar, where Cormac explains that he wanted some quiet before their big meeting the next day. Ruhn is concerned about Cormac’s state of mind, especially with the responsibility of the appointment weighing on him. They share a candid moment where Cormac admits to being jealous of Ruhn for having true friends and for not letting his father corrupt him. Cormac apologizes for his past behavior and expresses a sense of regret over their strained relationship. Ruhn proposes they start fresh, setting aside their past and creating their own paths as future kings. Cormac agrees, offering a handshake as a gesture of reconciliation.

Meanwhile, Hunt prepares for a mission by sneaking weapons into his room. Celestina confronts him, aware of his late-night departure, but they exchange a brief conversation about his concerns regarding his royal duties and his relationship with Bryce. Hunt reflects on his love for Bryce and the challenges they face with the Autumn King's expectations. Celestina offers her support, and Hunt leaves the barracks, flying into the night. He prepares for the upcoming journey to Pangera, knowing that the future is uncertain, and hopes he and Bryce will survive the battle ahead.

CHAPTER 70 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Tharion and Cormac are on a mission to meet Doctor Zelis at a security checkpoint, but Tharion feels uneasy about the situation. They're dressed in imperial uniforms, traveling through a forested area towards a lab, trying to avoid drawing attention. Tharion is mindful of the time, knowing that he can only stay above ground for a limited time before he needs to submerge.

At the gate, Cormac casually handles the situation with a guard who questions their forged papers. With Cormac's influence and a contact on his phone, they gain access and continue toward the lab. Tharion is on edge, aware of the risks, and wonders if Pippa will show up.

Meanwhile, Bryce, Hunt, and Ruhn are preparing for a risky mission near the Eternal City, considering the danger they’re about to face. Ruhn is especially concerned about Agent Daybright, who has gone dark, and as they wait, he reflects on the situation. He discusses the possibility of a Fae coup, proposing that Bryce could become the Autumn Queen, but Bryce resists.

As Cormac reappears, they proceed with the plan. Cormac confirms there were no issues, and they quickly make their way into the palace. Bryce and Cormac have a brief conversation about the prophecy, hinting at a future leadership role for Bryce in the rebellion. As they move forward, they prepare for the unknown challenges ahead.

CHAPTER 71 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this chapter, Bryce finds herself in a stairwell within the Asteri’s forbidden palace archives. As she descends a white quartz spiral staircase, she observes the hall ahead, lined with crystal pipes and plaques bearing the names of the Asteri. As she approaches the plaques, she notices the pipes are linked to the flow of firstlight, a source of power that the Asteri depend on to sustain themselves. Each plaque has a screen showing the power level of each Asteri, confirming Bryce’s suspicion that the Asteri are feeding off firstlight, which is funneled into their palace from the people of Midgard.

This discovery reveals the Asteri’s exploitation of the firstlight, taken from the living and dead alike, using it to fuel their power and control. The Asteri’s reign has been sustained by siphoning this energy, turning the dead’s souls into secondlight for their own benefit. Bryce realizes that cutting off the supply of firstlight could potentially weaken or destroy the Asteri’s power. This knowledge ties back to Sofie’s and Danika’s findings, suggesting a way to overthrow the Asteri and free the people from their oppression.

CHAPTER 72 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this scene, tensions are running high as Bryce, Hunt, and Ruhn try to navigate through the palace in search of a trapped agent in the dungeons. Ruhn is on edge, cloaked in shadows, and makes his way toward the dungeons, while Hunt and Bryce are in different locations, each focused on their own tasks. Bryce, determined to uncover more information, sneaks into a mysterious room marked "Dusk" despite being late and against Hunt's wishes. Inside, she discovers maps and notes revealing a terrifying history of planetary conquest by the Asteri, a group that feeds on the power of different worlds, including Midgard. Bryce is struck by the realization that the Asteri have been luring and feeding off entire worlds for thousands of years, and they are the true source of suffering for so many beings across the cosmos. The room also holds unsettling revelations about the Asteri’s plans for future conquests and the long history of their dominance. Bryce is shaken by the knowledge of how much has been hidden from her and the true scale of the Asteri’s manipulation. As she uncovers these secrets, she realizes the stakes are much higher than she ever imagined, with the possibility of facing them not just on Midgard but across the universe.

CHAPTER 73 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this scene, Bryce confronts Rigelus, a powerful figure who reveals the truth about the ancient Fae, their role in manipulating other worlds, and the origins of the shifters. Rigelus explains that the Fae, including Bryce’s ancestors, have a long history of conquest, and the shifters, including Bryce’s friend Danika, are actually Fae from a different world. The Fae have been trapped on Midgard because of the actions of Bryce’s ancestors, who shut the gates to other worlds. Rigelus admits to using Bryce as a tool to reopen the Rifts, allowing the Fae to conquer other realms once again.

Rigelus also explains that Danika was on the verge of exposing the truth about the Fae, which led to her death at the hands of Micah, under the manipulation of Rigelus and his mystics. Bryce, devastated by this revelation, becomes determined to take action. However, she finds herself trapped by Rigelus's forces, with her wrists bound and her powers temporarily neutralized, as she faces a grinning Harpy.

CHAPTER 74 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

Tharion, in a desperate bid to escape, is trapped by a mech-suit with a massive gun. Despite the overwhelming situation, he manages to evade the shots and runs to the wall breach caused by the mech. He is determined to survive, despite the Viper Queen's control over him, as he heads for the water. Behind him, chaos unfolds as Cormac, badly injured, sacrifices himself in a fiery explosion. Tharion runs for his life, the building collapsing behind him.

Meanwhile, Ruhn, bound in a cell beneath the Asteri’s palace, is recovering from a brutal beating. He questions whether Day betrayed him. His fears seem to be confirmed when Bryce and Athalar are brought into the cell, also shackled. They are all at the mercy of Mordoc, the dreadwolf captain, who reveals that Rigelus orchestrated their capture. Mordoc toys with Ruhn, showing cruel delight, and mocks Bryce and Athalar. Ruhn realizes too late that their capture was planned, and Mordoc has been tracking them for weeks.

The tension escalates as the Harpy enters, taunting Athalar and Ruhn. She aims to torment them, particularly Ruhn, with a knife. Bryce, desperate, tries to protect her brother, but the Harpy is determined to cause harm. As the knife moves toward Ruhn’s throat, something golden and swift barrels into the Harpy, knocking her away. Ruhn is stunned to see the Hind, the one person who can save them.

CHAPTER 75 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this intense scene, Ruhn and the others find themselves in a perilous situation, with tensions escalating between the characters. The Harpy confronts the Hind (Lidia) in a heated battle, revealing her true allegiance to Earth and Blood, rather than the House of Sky and Breath. Lidia's true identity as Day becomes clear, as her scent is entwined with Ruhn’s, and her familial connection to Hypaxia is confirmed. Lidia fights fiercely, using her skills to defeat the Harpy, even as Pollux's looming threat adds to the danger.

Ruhn, shocked and confused by the revelation, watches as Lidia, in her Hind persona, saves him from the Harpy. Her betrayal is revealed as she explains how she had been working undercover, feeding intel to the rebels and avoiding suspicion from the Asteri. While her intentions remain unclear, Lidia asserts that she had to play along with the Asteri's plans to protect herself and others.

As the group struggles to comprehend the truth, Pollux arrives, and the situation becomes even more dire. He grabs Bryce, choking her, and threatens her, leading to a tense standoff. Lidia, despite her cold exterior, shows signs of vulnerability as Pollux taunts her and shows his cruel hold over her. However, Lidia has a plan to get the group out, though it seems uncertain if they’ll survive Pollux’s wrath.

In the elevator, as the group is transported, Ruhn's internal conflict intensifies. He struggles with his feelings for Lidia, the woman who has caused so much destruction but also risked everything to save him. The scene closes with a growing sense of danger as the characters are forced into a high-stakes situation, with Pollux still holding sway over Bryce and Lidia seemingly lost in a complicated web of lies, loyalty, and betrayal.

CHAPTER 76 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this intense scene, Hunt is confronted with the gruesome sight of his severed wings displayed above the Asteri's thrones, marking the tragic proof of his failure. He and Bryce are captured and brought before Rigelus, an Asteri member, who is eager to extract information from them. Bryce, defiant and full of rage, insults Rigelus and reveals some of the Asteri's horrific actions, including feeding off firstlight and secondlight from their deaths.

Rigelus taunts them, revealing he’s been manipulating their every move, even using Bryce’s powers to his advantage. He speaks about the Asteri’s vendetta against the Fae, particularly targeting those connected to the lost world of the Fae. He also reveals the truth about Bryce's star and its connection to that world, which will help the Asteri exact their revenge.

Bryce, determined to protect Hunt and Ruhn, offers to help the Asteri if they agree to let them go unharmed. She makes a heartbreaking final stand, exchanging a final, tear-filled goodbye with Hunt. As they part, Hunt declares his eternal love for Bryce, promising to find her again, no matter the cost.

Meanwhile, Bryce clings to her brother, Ruhn, who reveals a secret about an oracle's prophecy that could change everything—Ruhn is the last of the royal line, hinting at a future twist in their fate.

CHAPTER 77 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this intense scene, Hunt is tortured by Rigelus and his underlings. He is restrained with gorsian stones, unable to fight back, and is led toward a Gate that Bryce had recently used to escape. Hunt's mind is consumed with thoughts of Bryce, praying she made it safely to Hel and could rally Hel's armies for their salvation. Despite being powerless, Hunt faces the harsh reality of his situation as Rigelus prepares to inflict further pain.

Pollux forces Hunt to his knees before the Gate, where Bryce’s scent still lingers. Rigelus announces that he doesn’t need crones and instead uses his own power to inflict excruciating pain on Hunt. A white-hot halo forms on Hunt’s brow, burning into him with devastating intensity. His power, once his own, is now under the control of the Asteri. As Hunt screams in agony, he wonders if his pain will reach Bryce through the Gate. Ultimately, the physical torture leads to a loss of consciousness, and Hunt’s fate remains uncertain.

CHAPTER 78 RECAP - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In this scene, Bryce Quinlan finds herself disoriented and in immediate danger after a fall, with mist and grass surrounding her. As she struggles to get up, she realizes she’s in an unknown world, separated from Hunt and Ruhn, and desperately needs to reach Aidas. She is confronted by a demon with black wings who orders her to remain still, but she pleads for help in finding Aidas. The demon, assessing her, notices the Starsword, a powerful artifact she’s carrying. As Bryce is blindfolded and flown to a new location, she’s taken to a mysterious house that smells of roses and bread, in a seemingly different version of Hel.

In the house, she meets several figures, including winged males and a petite, dark-haired female, all of whom are Fae. Bryce, confused and desperate, speaks in the ancient Fae language to ask if she’s in Hel and whether they can take her to Prince Aidas. The Fae are shocked by her use of this ancient tongue, which hasn’t been spoken in this world for 15,000 years. Bryce’s heart sinks as they deny knowing Aidas or Apollion, revealing that this world is not Hel, and she has no idea where she is.

Bryce continues to beg for help, and eventually, a male with violet-blue eyes and a similar appearance to her brother Ruhn enters. This male, along with a tattooed female, listens as Bryce explains her world, Midgard, is in grave danger. She pleads for assistance to find her way back to Hel. The Fae respond with curiosity and offer to help, with the male introducing himself as Rhysand, signaling a potential turning point in Bryce's search for answers.

EPILOGUE - HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH

In the epilogue, Ithan Holstrom, a wolf shifter, is on guard outside the Astronomer's building during a storm, anxiously awaiting news from Pangera and his friends, especially Bryce. There's a tension in the air, amplified by the mysterious absence of the Astronomer and the mystic who is locked away inside. Ithan is determined to protect the mystic, a Fendyr heir with the potential to challenge Sabine.

As he waits, he senses the presence of his former Alpha, Amelie Ravenscroft, who causes a brief confrontation before disappearing. Ithan, still on edge, receives a phone call from Flynn, who delivers devastating news: Ruhn and Athalar have been captured by the Asteri, Cormac is dead, and Bryce has disappeared. The possibility that Bryce may no longer be alive weighs heavily on Ithan, who is shaken by the news.

Despite his personal turmoil, Ithan is compelled to act. He breaks into the building to ensure the mystic is safe and attempts to rouse her from her unconscious state, as she is in a vulnerable, dream-like condition. He expresses his deep connection to his friends and his pack, emphasizing that he won’t lose them. Finally, after a moment of vulnerability, the mystic begins to stir, indicating hope for their future actions together.
