The Asher
Ash (Nyktos) is finally reunited with Sera after her Ascension and is overwhelmed with relief that she is alive, safe, and now his true mate. While speaking with Nektas, they confirm the realms are temporarily peaceful, but Kolis remains hidden, and Ash vows to make him pay for everything he did to Sera and their family. Nektas insists everyone needs to see Sera to confirm she is still herself and truly the Primal of Life, but Ash asks for time because she has endured terrible trauma and needs to heal first. When Ash returns to their room, he senses through their bond that Sera is trapped in a terrifying nightmare filled with fear. Realizing anger won't help her, he calms himself and gently uses his power to wake and comfort her, showing that protecting and supporting Sera is now his highest priority.
The Primal of Life
Sera awakens changed and begins learning what it means to hold true Life.
CHAPTER 01
Chapter 1
Sera wakes from a nightmare but hides the full truth from Ash, revealing only that Kolis constantly mocked her appearance, especially her hair because it reminded him of Sotoria. Ash promises that although Kolis cannot yet be killed, he will make him suffer, while Sera insists she wants revenge too. As they talk, Sera begins discovering the changes from her Ascension—her vision becomes incredibly sharp, her instincts and intuition grow stronger, and she learns she may eventually gain abilities like communicating with the draken and even a form of foresight similar to Eythos. Despite discussing their fears and responsibilities, Ash and Sera reaffirm their unconditional love and tease each other about how possessive they both are, showing how much their relationship has deepened. Just as they are about to leave their room and face the outside world, an ancient, unfamiliar presence suddenly enters through the balcony in a strange mist, causing Ash to transform into battle mode before everything is swallowed by darkness.
CHAPTER 02
Chapter 2
Sera awakens alone in a strange cavern within the Abyss, where she meets the three legendary Riders—War, Pestilence, and Hunger—who tell her she must prove herself worthy of being the true Primal of Life. They force her into a trial by making her battle a terrifying three-headed beast, which she defeats using her training and quick thinking. However, the monster then transforms into her abusive stepbrother, Tavius, triggering all the pain and rage from her past. Ready to erase him from existence forever, Sera ultimately realizes she has already taken her revenge and chooses mercy instead of letting hatred define her. The Riders reveal that the true monster she was meant to defeat was the darkness and vengeance within herself, and by refusing to become that monster, they declare her worthy of commanding them whenever she calls.
CHAPTER 03
Chapter 3
After passing the Riders' trial, Sera reflects that the true test was never about defeating Tavius but about mastering the darkness within herself and choosing mercy over vengeance. She escapes the Abyss and returns to the Shadowlands, where she finds everyone, including Ash, asleep because the Riders' trial places the palace under a harmless magical sleep. Nektas explains that Eythos underwent the same trial and reassures Sera that she truly is worthy of being the Primal of Life. He also teaches her about the growing abilities she inherited from Eythos, including powerful intuition (vadentia), which can reveal knowledge, guide her to important people or places, and become stronger with time. Finally, Nektas reminds Sera that every Primal has an inner monster—Eythos's was his pride and blind faith in Kolis—suggesting that Sera's own darkness, if controlled, may one day become her greatest strength rather than her downfall.
CHAPTER 04
Chapter 4
When Ash wakes from the Riders' spell, he panics, believing Kolis has taken Sera again, but calms only after seeing she is safe. Sera tells him about the Riders' trial and confesses that the "monster" she had to face was the cold, vengeful part of herself, but Ash reassures her that everyone has darkness within them and that it does not define who they are. They discuss Sera's fears about ruling as the true Primal of Life, and Ash convinces her that her compassion, courage, and willingness to think of others are exactly why she is worthy of the crown. Together they also decide that, once Kolis is defeated, the Rite of the Chosen should continue only as a voluntary choice rather than forced servitude, showing the kind of rulers they want to become. Alone later, Sera struggles with the immense responsibility of defeating Kolis without destroying the realms, realizes she must learn to master both her new powers and herself, and finally notices a permanent physical sign of her Ascension—her green eyes now contain shimmering silver streaks, marking her as the true Primal of Life.
CHAPTER 05
Chapter 5
While recovering, Sera and Ash discuss her new life as a fledgling Primal, and Ash explains that although she is temporarily more vulnerable, her power already surpasses that of most gods and many Primals. Sera begins recovering memories from her Ascension and uncovers a shocking truth: the Ancients were not Primals but star-like creators, some of whom became the Arae, while others remain trapped in stasis beneath the realms. She learns that if the balance between true Life and Death is broken, these sleeping Ancients will awaken as Unia and Eram —beings capable of destroying entire realms—revealing that defeating Kolis is far more complicated than simply killing him. Sera also discovers that Callum is Sotoria's brother , whom Kolis resurrected using forbidden power after Callum took his own life, explaining why Kolis treats him differently from the other soulless Revenants. By the chapter's end, Ash gently asks Sera to tell him everything Kolis forced her to endure during her captivity, preparing them to finally confront the trauma she has been carrying alone.
CHAPTER 06
Chapter 6
Unable to talk about the trauma of her captivity, Sera and Ash instead focus on how to defeat Kolis. They conclude that killing him isn't currently possible , so their only option is to entomb him using Ancient bone weapons and discover how the Ancients themselves were imprisoned for thousands of years, possibly with help from Keella. Sera also proposes a completely different way of ruling after Kolis falls: instead of absolute rule, she wants the other Primals—and even the draken—to share responsibility in major decisions, believing power should never belong to only one or two people. Ash is impressed by her wisdom and agrees that convincing the other Primals to join them could weaken Kolis before war begins. Sera realizes she is consciously fighting against her impulsive, vengeful side after the Riders' trial, choosing strategy over rage, but just as they finish making their plans, her growing intuition warns that someone powerful is approaching .
CHAPTER 07
Chapter 7
Sera and Ash reunite with the young draken, Jadis and Reaver , who reveal how frightened they were after believing Kolis had taken both of them forever. Sera discovers her powers are growing rapidly when she realizes she can already understand the draken's language, while she and Ash comfort the children and promise they will never abandon them again. Later, Sera and Nektas discuss the Riders, the Fates, and the Ancients, confirming that the Ancients once possessed complete control over life, death, and the realms before dividing their power. They also realize that if Kolis ever obtained both the true powers of Life and Death, he would become the Primal of Blood and Bone —a being with power comparable to an Ancient, making it even more critical to stop him. The chapter ends with Sera suffering another traumatic nightmare of Kolis, but Ash gently pulls her back to reality, reminding her that she is finally safe and no longer his prisoner.
CHAPTER 08
Chapter 8
Sera struggles with the emotional scars left by Kolis, realizing that even simple things—like choosing her own clothes or facing people alone—trigger painful memories of her captivity. While talking with Aios , she learns more about the responsibility of being the Primal of Life, including that restoring mortals to life requires balance and should not be done carelessly. Sera also loses control for a moment when hearing about Kyn's cruelty, briefly revealing more of her Primal power before swearing an unbreakable oath that Kyn will answer for his crimes. The chapter's most important moment comes when Aios gently confronts Sera about what happened in Dalos, revealing that she understands the trauma because she endured similar abuse under Kolis herself. For the first time, someone makes Sera realize that what happened to her wasn't "nothing" —it was real trauma that she cannot keep burying forever.
CHAPTER 09
Chapter 9
Sera continues healing from everything Kolis put her through but realizes she must stop hiding and begin acting as the true Queen. Her growing Primal abilities evolve again, allowing her to instinctively sense people's names, histories, and even the nature of their souls. While discussing strategy with Ash, she nearly decides to awaken and destroy the gods entombed beneath the Red Woods, but chooses not to, proving she can resist the temptation to misuse her immense power. Ash reassures her that being Queen is not about having unlimited authority but about choosing what is right, and he supports even her reckless decisions because he trusts her heart. Before meeting the Shadowlands gods, Sera learns that her nota (animal form) is likely a silver cave cat , though Ash warns that her first transformation should wait because it can be difficult to control. The chapter ends with Ash reminding Sera that they will face everyone not as Consort and Primal, but together as Queen and King , ready to lead the realms against Kolis.
Queen of the Shadowlands
Sera and Ash step into rule and prepare the Courts for war.
CHAPTER 10
Chapter 10
Sera officially steps into her role as Queen , though she is embarrassed when everyone bows to her, and immediately orders them to stop treating her differently. During the council meeting, she and Ash learn that hundreds of gods are fleeing other Courts and seeking refuge in the Shadowlands , creating future challenges for housing and food but also proving that faith in Kolis is weakening. As they discuss their strategy, Sera insists that Ash is her equal and King , establishing that they will rule together rather than one above the other. The group debates Kolis's next move, with most believing he will launch an immediate attack, while Sera argues that he is more calculating and will first try to control public opinion, portray her as a false Queen, and avoid a war he cannot win. The chapter ends with Sera and Ash recognizing that, although they view Kolis differently, they agree on the most important point: he will eventually strike, and they must be ready before he does.
CHAPTER 11
Chapter 11
Sera openly admits she isn't an experienced ruler and decides that honesty and relying on trusted allies are better than pretending to have all the answers. The council agrees to summon all the Primals (except Kyn and Veses) and proposes a revolutionary idea: instead of one ruler making every decision, the realms would be governed by a council where each Primal—and even the draken—has a vote , preventing anyone from becoming another Kolis. They also discuss the different Courts, learning that only a few are ruled fairly while others suffer under tyranny, neglect, or corruption, making it uncertain who will support them. The plan is finalized: entomb Kolis rather than kill him for now, seek Keella's knowledge, have Attes summon the other Primals , and reassure the refugees in Lethe before taking further action. The chapter ends with Sera inspecting the Shadowlands' army and realizing the enormous scale of the coming war—although thousands are willing to fight for her, Kolis and his allies could still outnumber them if enough Courts side with him.
CHAPTER 12
Chapter 12
As Sera prepares for her first public speech as Queen, she insists on staying true to herself by wearing practical clothes instead of an elaborate gown, showing she wants to be respected for who she is rather than appearances. Ash comforts her fears about leading and reminds her that she doesn't have to carry every burden alone, while they also discuss the immense responsibility of deciding when to use the power to restore life. Later, Sera realizes that her growing restlessness is actually her Primal intuition trying to guide her toward an important realization. She suddenly understands that, as the true Primal of Life , she doesn't have to wait for nature to recover on its own— she can restore the rivers and lakes of the Shadowlands herself , offering hope for the land and its people before the coming war.
CHAPTER 13
Chapter 13
Following her intuition, Sera secretly takes Ash to the dried riverbeds of the Shadowlands, believing she can restore the land herself. While there, she learns more about Eythos's flaws, including his tragic creation of the lyrue , creatures cursed because he transformed mortals without giving them a choice, reminding Sera that even great rulers can make devastating mistakes. Trusting her instincts, Sera stops merely wishing and instead uses her will as the true Primal of Life , unleashing an immense surge of power. The dry rivers erupt with water, the remaining Rot disappears, grass, trees, and crimson poppies bloom across the land, and life returns to the Shadowlands in moments. Witnessing this miracle, Ash is left speechless and kneels before Sera in awe, calling her "My Queen," fully recognizing the incredible power she now possesses.
CHAPTER 14
Chapter 14
After restoring life to the Shadowlands, Sera experiences a mysterious connection to Kolis and realizes that her massive use of the Primal essence awakened him from stasis , confirming the true Primal of Life and Death are permanently linked. Although worried, she and Ash agree they cannot regret restoring the Shadowlands, since Kolis would have awakened eventually anyway. Sera also confirms that while her power revived the land, it did not affect the Dying Woods or the Shades , teaching her that Death's domain cannot be changed from afar and that Life and Death each have boundaries. As she prepares for her first public appearance, Reaver reassures her that the people already admire her and reveals that the draken can sense her emotions through their bond, making Sera realize she must learn to control her anxiety. The chapter ends with Sera, Ash, and Reaver heading to meet Rhain, who urgently reveals that something is wrong with the crowns , hinting that a new problem is about to unfold.
CHAPTER 15
Chapter 15
Sera discovers another major sign that she is the true Primal of Life when Kolis's golden crown abandons him and magically returns to her, proving even the ancient Primal crowns recognize their rightful rulers. Later, Sera and Ash address the people of the Shadowlands, where they announce a new era: they will rule together as King and Queen , protect everyone who seeks refuge, and end Kolis's tyrannical rule to create a fairer future. The crowd overwhelmingly accepts them, celebrating Sera's restoration of the Shadowlands and their promise of shared leadership, giving Sera the confidence that she truly belongs as Queen. However, that night, Sera is haunted by another terrifying nightmare of Kolis that triggers a severe panic attack, and although Ash calmly helps her recover, she lies about the dream, showing that the trauma Kolis inflicted still has a powerful hold over her despite her newfound strength.
CHAPTER 16
Chapter 16
The morning after their successful public address, Sera struggles to control her growing Primal powers while Ash reminds her that her will—not overthinking—is the key to mastering them . Although Ash gently tries to get her to open up about her nightmares, Sera continues hiding the truth about Kolis, believing she must bear the trauma alone. Suddenly, Sera senses the arrival of an incredibly ancient and powerful presence , and a portal opens inside the palace. A mysterious Ancient (Arae/Fate) appears, treating Sera like an inexperienced "Baby Primal" and immediately clashes with Ash, who fiercely defends his wife despite knowing how dangerous the being is. The shocking chapter ends with the Ancient revealing the reason for his visit: the true Primal of Death has summoned Sera , setting up a major turning point in the story.
The Summons of Death
The Ancients intervene and Kolis offers peace.
CHAPTER 17
Chapter 17
An Ancient named Aydun informs Sera that she must meet Kolis alone because the summons cannot be refused, while Ash desperately tries to stop her, knowing Kolis's greatest weapon is psychological, not physical. After Sera finally admits she is terrified of Kolis but even more afraid of losing Ash, he reluctantly lets her go, and they share an emotional goodbye before she leaves. Once in Dalos, Aydun reveals that the Ancients fear a war between the Primals because it could awaken the sleeping Ancients, leading to catastrophic consequences for the realms. He also explains that the future is not fixed and that Sera herself has been changing fate , creating new possibilities that even the Ancients never foresaw. Before sending her to Kolis, Aydun gives one final warning: trust her own instincts above everything else , because if this meeting leads to war, it will continue until there is only blood and bone .
CHAPTER 18
Chapter 18
Sera arrives at Cor Palace and refuses to let Kolis intimidate her, even breaking the palace doors rather than waiting outside as a sign of submission. Inside, she kills Callum after he provokes her (knowing he'll revive), rescues a helpless godling from Kyn , and even burns Kyn's hand with her Primal power before Aydun intervenes, proving she is no longer the powerless prisoner they once controlled. When Kolis finally appears, Sera sees that he is still weakened after awakening, though now he fully embodies the true Primal of Death . During their conversation, Kolis realizes Ash truly loved Sera, correctly deduces that Sotoria's soul is no longer inside Sera , and sees through her attempts to mislead him about the Star . The chapter ends with Kolis revealing that he didn't summon Sera to demand her surrender—instead, he wants to make her a deal , setting up a dangerous negotiation.
CHAPTER 19
Chapter 19
Kolis offers Sera a bargain to avoid war : if she gives him The Star containing Sotoria's soul , he will spare Sera and Ash, abandon punishment, and let them continue living as the Primals of Life while he rules as King. Refusing to sacrifice Sotoria, Sera instead proposes a counteroffer: Kolis may remain the Primal of Death but must renounce the throne, give up all authority, and never seek revenge , allowing peace without surrendering Sotoria. Kolis rejects the idea and uses his terrifying new syhkik ability to force Sera to relive the trauma of her captivity, hoping to break her emotionally, but she realizes he is trying to provoke Ash into acting recklessly. Regaining control, Sera tells Kolis that he disgusts her just as he disgusted Sotoria, ending the meeting without accepting his deal. Afterward, Aydun reveals they have one month to decide, explains that although Kolis has suffered greatly throughout his existence, it does not excuse his crimes , and reassures Sera that she was right to trust her instincts and refuse the offer.
CHAPTER 20
Chapter 20
After returning safely, Sera tells Ash and the others about Kolis's offer and her counteroffer , explaining that she chose peace because she couldn't sacrifice Sotoria or ignore the value of thousands of innocent lives. While Rhain and Nektas agree that peace should always be attempted first , Ash remains skeptical, believing Kolis ultimately values power and revenge more than peace and is only delaying war until it benefits him. They decide to continue preparing for war , gathering allies and waiting the one-month deadline before responding to Kolis's proposal. Later, Sera worries that Ash is disappointed in her decision, but he reassures her that he isn't disappointed—only frustrated that he couldn't prepare her better for the negotiation. The chapter ends with Ash warning Sera that although he hopes she is right, the Kolis he knows would rather watch the realms burn than give up his throne , so they must be ready for the worst.
CHAPTER 21
Chapter 21
While waiting for Ash to return, Sera tries to keep herself occupied by training, but Saion explains that she is now far too powerful to safely spar with ordinary gods until she learns to control her new strength. Later, Rhain helps her begin thinking like a Queen by discussing palace management and reminds her that she has earned the respect others show her, even if she still doubts herself. As Sera reflects on Kolis's mention of a hidden part of the prophecy , she realizes it may be connected to the mysterious warning about "blood and bone" and decides the only person likely to know the truth is Holland . Using her powers as the true Primal of Life, she successfully summons Holland (a Fate/Ancient) for the first time, proving her abilities continue to grow. Before Holland arrives, however, the chapter ends with an unexpected announcement that the goddess Penellaphe and Ward have come to see Sera , setting up another important revelation.
CHAPTER 22
Chapter 22
Sera meets Penellaphe and Ward , where her growing foresight unexpectedly reveals that Ward was the very first viktor and that, by saving Seraphena ("The Silver Knight") , he unknowingly ensured Sera's own bloodline would exist. She also learns that she was named after this legendary warrior queen , making the connection to her ancestry even more meaningful. Penellaphe praises Sera for restoring the Shadowlands and agrees that seeking peace with Kolis is the right first choice , while explaining that the Fates (Ancients) are also bound by the laws of the realms and cannot simply ignore or rewrite them. The biggest revelation comes when Sera shares the hidden final part of the prophecy that Kolis revealed, mentioning the Primal of Blood and Ash and the fall of the great powers. To Sera's surprise, Penellaphe immediately declares that Kolis is wrong , confirming that he has misunderstood the prophecy's true meaning and setting up a major revelation about who it actually refers to.
CHAPTER 23
Chapter 23
Penellaphe reveals that Kolis has misunderstood the prophecy —the Primal of Blood and Ash is not Kolis , and the prophecy refers to events that occur far in the future , after the gods have entered stasis. Together, they realize Keella may know the complete, correct version of the prophecy and decide she is the key to understanding it. They also discuss Eythos's true plan , concluding it may never have been for Ash to become the Primal of Life but instead for Sera to Ascend as the true Primal of Life , making her powerful enough to weaken Kolis while Ash would inherit the embers of Death using The Star . This realization horrifies Sera because she understands Ash—not her—is Kolis's greatest threat . Suddenly, her growing vadentia (Primal intuition) warns that something is wrong, and despite everyone trying to stop her, Sera learns how to shadowstep across realms for the first time and immediately leaves for Vathi to find Ash.
CHAPTER 24
Chapter 24
Sera successfully shadowsteps across realms to Vathi after her intuition warns her that Ash is in danger, arriving just in time to discover she was right. She reunites with Attes , who has already clashed with Ash, and despite the lighthearted banter, Sera senses death approaching before anyone else. Moments later, Kyn's Dogs of War (kynakos) attack, but Sera realizes they are not hunting her—they are hunting Ash , confirming that Kolis's side now sees the Primal of no Court as the greatest threat. Refusing to stand by, Sera fully embraces her power, consciously controlling the eather for the first time and effortlessly annihilating the entire pack with devastating precision. Afterward, everyone understands that Sera's intuition saved Ash's life, and it becomes clear that Kyn has now openly declared himself an enemy , making peace with him impossible.
CHAPTER 25
Chapter 25
After returning to the Shadowlands, Ash and Sera finally discuss everything that happened in Vathi. Sera shares what she learned from Penellaphe and Ward —that Keella may know the complete prophecy and that Eythos's true plan may have always been for Sera to become the true Primal of Life , while Ash would eventually inherit the embers of Death using The Star . Ash accepts this possibility without hesitation, insisting that his only goal has ever been to stop Kolis and protect Sera, and they agree that entombing Kolis until Sotoria is reborn is now their best plan. Sera also confronts Ash about hiding the fact that he is Kolis's biggest target , but Ash reassures her that neither of them will allow the other to fall. In a quieter moment afterward, Ash reveals another hidden part of himself— he is a talented painter , and the cherished portraits of his parents hanging in the palace were painted by him from memory after Kolis destroyed every trace of them, giving Sera an even deeper appreciation of the man behind the King.
CHAPTER 26
Chapter 26
As Sera continues adjusting to life as a fledgling Primal, she learns that feeding from Ash is essential , not just to regain strength but to prevent exhaustion and bloodlust, and Ash helps her overcome the trauma associated with it by reassuring her that he willingly chooses her—not the memories of Veses. They reaffirm their long-term plan: entomb Kolis until Sotoria can be reborn , after which Ash will inherit the embers of Death using The Star . However, everything changes when Attes returns with Thierran , a powerful oneirou who unexpectedly offers his support against Kolis. Attes then reveals a critical truth: because neither Sera nor Kolis accepted or rejected the proposed peace agreement, they have unknowingly entered an eirini (truce period) . During this time, Sera cannot recruit other Primals or launch an attack , while Kolis is free to wait, making their strategy far more complicated. As they begin planning instead to gather Ancient bones needed to entomb Kolis, the chapter ends with a shocking interruption— another Primal suddenly arrives at the throne room , catching everyone off guard.
CHAPTER 27
Chapter 27
Kyn arrives at the Shadowlands demanding revenge for the Dogs of War Sera killed, but his real goal is to provoke Ash and intimidate everyone into submitting to Kolis. Despite Attes's desperate attempts to save his brother, Kyn repeatedly insults Sera and Ash, openly supports Kolis's cruelty, and finally mocks Sera's captivity, causing Ash to lose control. Ash brutally attacks Kyn— ripping out his tongue, tearing out his heart, and nearly killing him —but stops short of delivering the final blow because killing a Primal outside of war would have devastating consequences. Later, Ash and Sera open up about the horrors Kolis forced them to endure. Ash reveals he was forced to feed on and kill hundreds of innocent gods , while Sera confesses how Kolis manipulated her into killing Evander , making them realize they both carry deep guilt for crimes that were never truly theirs. The chapter ends with them comforting each other, accepting that Kolis's greatest weapon has always been manipulation , not just violence.
Blood, Bone & Prophecy
Keella reveals the truth and the path to entombment.
CHAPTER 28
Chapter 28
Sera and Ash visit Keella , who reveals the crucial secret to entombing a Primal or an Ancient : in addition to Ancient bones, a rare mineral called celastite is needed because it suppresses Primal essence, making permanent entombment possible. Keella also shares the complete prophecy , confirming that Kolis misunderstood it . The prophecy is not about Kolis becoming the Primal of Blood and Bone but instead centers on Sera, Ash, and Sotoria , with Sera being the bearer of two crowns and giver of life , Ash the silver beast , and together they will bring about the rise of the future Primal of Blood and Bone , while Kolis is the false one destined to fall. The prophecy also warns that this future will coincide with the Awakening of the Ancients , making the stakes far greater than defeating Kolis alone. Afterward, Sera apologizes to Attes for the inevitable conflict with Kyn and confirms she still intends to bring Kyn to justice. Attes also reveals two heartbreaking truths: Sotoria's soul still rests quietly inside The Star , and Eythos himself caused Sotoria's second death—but only because she asked him to , ending the chapter with a shocking revelation about her sacrifice.
CHAPTER 29
Chapter 29
Two peaceful weeks pass as Sera and Ash continue preparing for the future. While Saion excavates the celastite caverns that will one day be used to entomb Kolis, Sera and Ash spend their days training, rebuilding the Shadowlands, and enjoying rare moments of happiness together. Despite this calmer life, Sera is still haunted by recurring nightmares of Dalos, showing that her emotional wounds are far from healed. Spending time with Jadis and Reaver reminds Sera what they are fighting to protect, while her curiosity about the afterlife leads her to learn more about the Book of the Dead . She discovers that if Ash is unable to write the names of the deceased, Rhahar (and Rhain) can temporarily perform the duty because Ash once held and returned their souls, allowing the balance between life and death to continue even during Ash's imprisonment. In a heartfelt conversation, Rhahar tells Sera that the people of the Shadowlands trust and respect her not because she is Queen, but because she repeatedly risked everything to save them. Just as Sera begins enjoying this brief period of peace and even starts making Ash's office feel more like a home, her growing Primal intuition suddenly flares, warning her that another Primal has arrived at the palace—and she immediately knows it isn't Ash.
CHAPTER 30
Chapter 30
Sera senses the arrival of another Primal and soon discovers it is Veses , who has come to the Shadowlands demanding to see Ash. Fueled by everything Veses did to Ash and Reaver, Sera confronts her at the gates, refusing to let her inside. The encounter quickly turns vicious as Veses mocks Sera's past captivity, claims Ash could eventually tire of her, and cruelly reveals that Kyn knows about the bargain Sera made with Kolis to save Rhain , calling her nothing more than a "caged whore." Those words push Sera to the edge, and she unleashes her fury, beating Veses, breaking her nose and wrist, throwing her across the road, and finally sinking her fangs into Veses's throat , barely stopping herself from killing her. Rhain and Nektas remind Sera that executing Veses during the eirini would immediately start the war they have been trying to avoid, forcing Sera to choose restraint over revenge. Before leaving, Veses admits that Kolis truly wants Sera to accept his peace offer , warning that rejecting it will bring terrible consequences. The chapter ends with Rhain privately urging Sera to tell Ash the truth about the bargain she made with Kolis before Kyn or Veses twist the story into something worse, making Sera realize that the secret she has been hiding can no longer remain hidden.
CHAPTER 31
Chapter 31
After Ash returns from the Pillars, Sera tells him about her confrontation with Veses , admitting she beat her, broke her nose and wrist, threw her around, bit her throat, and nearly killed her . Rather than judging her, Ash reassures Sera that he understands her anger because he would have reacted the same way if someone had threatened her, helping her let go of the guilt she felt for almost crossing the line into vengeance. They also agree that Veses was likely telling the truth —Kolis genuinely wants Sera to accept his peace offer, suggesting he still prefers avoiding an immediate war while he has the chance. Later, Sera continues thinking about the prophecy, the growing danger of Kolis, and the devastating consequences of a war between Primals. Ash explains that battles between Primals can unleash enough power to cause earthquakes, tsunamis, violent storms, and widespread destruction in the mortal realm , making Sera realize innocent mortals—including her own family—could suffer from a conflict they know nothing about. Determined to protect them, Sera decides she must return to the mortal realm to warn Ezra and the kingdoms , while Ash reluctantly agrees, insisting that Nektas accompany her for protection since they cannot both leave the Shadowlands at the same time. The chapter ends on a much lighter note as Ash, sensing Sera's anxious thoughts, distracts her with playful teasing and affection until she finally falls asleep, reminding both of them that despite the looming war, they still have moments of love, laughter, and peace worth fighting for.
CHAPTER 32
Chapter 32
As Sera prepares to return to the mortal realm , she begins feeling strangely unwell, suffering from nausea, vomiting, exhaustion, and an unexpected aversion to food, though everyone assumes these symptoms are simply part of her recent Ascension. Before leaving, she spends time with Bele and Aios , where Bele's unique ability to sense a person's true nature reveals an uncannily accurate description of Sera: impulsive, fiercely loyal, compassionate, hot-tempered, unpredictable, and driven by both justice and vengeance. Later, Attes brings troubling intelligence from Dalos , revealing that Kolis has been staying out of public view while Callum and the newly freed Primal Varus handle court matters , and that Phanos , Primal of the Seas, has been meeting privately with Kolis, raising fears that another powerful Primal may side with him if war begins. Before Sera departs, Ash surprises her with a deeply meaningful gift: a dagger forged from the bone of an Ancient , carved with a silver wolf breathing fire to symbolize the prophecy and Sera herself as the one destined to wield it. Touched by the gift, Sera admits that Ash's first dagger was the first real present she had ever received , making this second one even more emotional because it reminds her she is finally loved and cherished. As they prepare for her journey, Ash explains that his strength is already returning faster because Sera has become the true Primal of Life , meaning all the Primals—including Kolis —are also growing stronger. The chapter ends with Sera, accompanied by Nektas , using shadowstepping to travel directly to Wayfair Palace in the mortal realm, determined to warn her family and the kingdoms about the danger that a war between Primals could bring.
CHAPTER 33
Chapter 33
Sera and Nektas arrive safely at Wayfair Palace , where Sera immediately notices that, with the Rot gone , the mortal realm feels cooler and alive again, making her truly appreciate the difference her restoration of the Shadowlands has made. As they enter the palace, Sera accidentally discovers another extraordinary ability of the true Primal of Life when she instinctively heals a palace guard who was dying from a hidden illness , realizing that her touch can restore not just injuries but life itself. While walking through the palace, Nektas also notices that the Mierel family crest —created only after Roderick's bargain with Eythos —contains ancient symbols representing Life and Death together , making Sera wonder if Eythos secretly left clues about the prophecy and her future centuries before she was born. However, before they can think further about it, Sera senses the familiar scent of stale lilacs and rushes to the dining hall, where she finds Callum calmly dining with her family after secretly spending several days manipulating them. Furious that Callum has been tormenting her family and taunting her about her imprisonment, Sera violently attacks him, brutally overpowering him before using her Primal power to burn him from the inside , temporarily killing the Revenant in front of her horrified mother, Ezra, Marisol, and the others. As Sera prepares to explain the truth about what she has become, the room begins shaking with an overwhelming surge of Death essence —Ash has sensed her rage through their bond and arrives dramatically in the mortal realm, ending the chapter with the terrifying entrance of the true Primal of Death before Sera's stunned family.
CHAPTER 34
Chapter 34
Ash arrives moments after sensing Sera's emotional pain , immediately realizing it wasn't caused by Callum but by her mother's reaction to discovering what she had become. Furious on Sera's behalf, Ash forces everyone—including the former Queen—to bow before Sera , publicly declaring her as the true Primal of Life, Queen of the Gods and Common Man, born of Blood and Ash , making it unmistakably clear that she deserves the respect and love she was always denied. Before leaving, Ash warns Sera's mother that she is alive only because Sera has shown mercy , then returns to the Shadowlands with the recovering Callum so he can be imprisoned and questioned. Left alone with her family, Sera explains the truth about Kolis, the Rot, her Ascension, and the coming war , while learning that Callum had secretly visited for years , originally teaching her mother how a Primal could be killed and recently convincing her that Sera had died ending the Rot, making his true motives even more mysterious. Sera also discovers a new ability tied to their shared bloodline: her family can summon her simply by calling her name , ensuring she can protect them if danger returns. She warns Ezra and Marisol that although they may not be able to stop the coming conflict, they must prepare the kingdoms for earthquakes, storms, landslides, and other disasters caused by a war between Primals. The emotional heart of the chapter comes when Ezra warmly accepts Sera , calls her "sister," expresses genuine happiness that she has found love with Ash, and promises to have countless questions when Sera returns. Finally, Sera shares a long-overdue private conversation with her mother, who admits she failed as a mother , apologizes without making excuses, and reveals that Sera was named after the legendary Silver Knight because she believed her daughter would need that same strength and determination to survive her fate. Although Sera cannot forgive or forget everything that happened, she realizes she inherited not only her father's kindness but also her mother's stubbornness, fierce will, and determination , and for the first time, the two leave with a fragile hope that they might someday heal their broken relationship by sharing memories of Sera's father when she returns.
CHAPTER 35
Chapter 35
After leaving Wayfair Palace, Sera realizes that, for the first time in her life, she feels hope instead of resentment toward her mother, believing they may eventually rebuild the relationship that was lost for so many years. Returning to the Shadowlands, she reunites with Ash before joining him, Attes, Nektas, and Rhain in interrogating Callum , who has been imprisoned beneath the House of Haides. They also make an important discovery about how to permanently kill Revenants : draken blood burns them from the inside, and they begin planning to recover basalt from the Undying Hills , the only stone capable of safely containing draken blood for future use against Kolis's army. During the interrogation, Callum reveals several unsettling truths. He insists that Kolis never sent him to Wayfair Palace , claiming he went of his own accord because he enjoyed the quiet company of Sera's mother and wanted to visit the mortal realm one last time before war. Although everyone doubts parts of his story, Callum refuses to explain why he taught Sera's mother that a Primal can only be killed by someone they love , even after Ash repeatedly shatters nearly every bone in his body trying to force an answer. An even more disturbing revelation comes when Sera cleans the gold paint from Callum's face and realizes that he bears a striking resemblance to both Sotoria and herself , raising the possibility that Sotoria's soul may have influenced Sera's bloodline—or that the two families are somehow connected by blood. Realizing they are running out of time before the eirini is violated, Sera warns Callum that if he ever goes near her family again, she will kill him regardless of the consequences, then drives her Ancient-bone dagger through his forehead before Attes returns the repeatedly resurrecting Revenant to Kolis's territory. That night, just as Sera and Ash finally settle into bed, Sera awakens with a terrifying feeling that something unnatural has entered the realms . At first only she can sense it, but moments later Ash feels it too, instantly recognizing the horrifying source: the Abyss itself is awakening , ending the chapter with a chilling new threat far beyond Kolis alone.
CHAPTER 36
Chapter 36
Sera awakens in the middle of the night with an overwhelming feeling that something unnatural has entered the realms , sensing the disturbance even before Ash does. Ash realizes the unrest is coming from the Abyss , but refuses to let Sera accompany him because, as the true Primal of Life , every soul imprisoned there would be irresistibly drawn to her, making the situation even more dangerous and tempting her instinct to restore life. After Ash leaves to investigate, Sera's intuition tells her the danger is no longer confined to the Abyss. Looking from the palace balcony, she witnesses a horrifying invasion as sekya —winged creatures that enforce punishment within the Abyss and should never enter the living realms—begin attacking the Shadowlands, slaughtering guards and spreading chaos. While fighting them, Sera discovers another extraordinary aspect of her powers when she sees a soul (sóls) leave a dying godling's body for the first time , witnessing the moment the spirit departs for the Pillars. Refusing to remain on the sidelines, she leaps from the palace balcony into the courtyard, unleashing her Primal power to knock the sekya from the sky. However, she quickly realizes something is terribly wrong: her eather cannot truly kill them , no matter how devastating the wounds she inflicts. Rhain finally reveals the key—that destroying their heads is the only way to stop them—allowing Sera, Bele, Kars, and the guards to begin fighting back. Just as they are being overwhelmed by wave after wave of sekya, Ash returns in his true Primal form , surrounded by immense wings of shadow and eather, effortlessly annihilating the creatures. In the aftermath, Ash reveals the chilling truth behind the attack: the sekya no longer answer to him because he is no longer the true Primal of Death—Kolis is. Kolis has deliberately summoned the sekya from the Abyss to strengthen his defenses , proving that he is already preparing for the coming war and that the balance of the realms is beginning to break.
CHAPTER 37
Chapter 37
In the aftermath of the sekya attack , Ash reveals the terrifying scale of what happened: around a thousand sekya escaped the Abyss , with roughly three-quarters making it out of the Shadowlands , proving that Kolis has gained frightening control over creatures that once answered only to the true Primal of Death. Sera also learns why her eather could only wound—not kill—the sekya : only someone carrying the embers of Death can permanently destroy them with essence, forcing everyone else to rely on shadowstone weapons to destroy their heads. As the wounded are brought into a hastily assembled infirmary, Sera instinctively uses her powers to heal nearly every injured god and goddess , discovering that healing comes naturally because the essence of Life itself is meant to preserve and restore , not destroy. While healing them, she also gains a deeper understanding of Eythos and Ash, realizing that the Life essence shaped their compassion and why Ash feels every death so deeply. However, Sera reaches one guard whose soul has already departed , and despite the overwhelming urge to restore his life, Ash gently stops her, reminding her that once a soul has truly left the body, it is gone , teaching Sera that even the true Primal of Life must accept that some deaths cannot be reversed. Later, Ash unexpectedly reveals what had truly been going through his mind during the battle. Sera assumed he had been angry at her for fighting without a weapon, but Ash admits that the moment he saw her glowing with both silver and gold eather on the battlefield, all he could think about was how beautiful she looked and how desperately he wanted her , not because she ignored him, but because she had become the living embodiment of Life itself . After reminding her to always carry the Ancient-bone dagger he gave her, the two share an intensely intimate moment that helps calm the fear and grief left by the battle. However, their peace is shattered when, immediately afterward, Sera is suddenly overwhelmed by the smell of stale lilacs and a crushing flashback to her imprisonment by Kolis, ending the chapter with the realization that the trauma she carries is still capable of invading even her happiest moments .
CHAPTER 38
Chapter 38
After their intimate moment, Sera suffers a severe panic attack when the smell of stale lilacs —the scent of Kolis and true death—triggers vivid memories of her imprisonment. Although she insists that "nothing happened," Ash gently but firmly refuses to let her minimize her trauma. He reveals that throughout her captivity he felt her fear, desperation, and pain through their bond , and already knows that Kolis threatened her, fed from her, displayed her like an object, manipulated her, and stole her sense of safety , even if Sera refuses to admit how deeply it affected her. Ash reminds her that surviving is not the same as emerging unharmed , telling her that a part of her is still trapped in that cage, which finally forces Sera to confront the shame, anger, helplessness, and guilt she has buried since escaping Dalos. The emotional overload becomes so overwhelming that her newly awakened Primal instincts take over, causing her to shift into her nota form for the first time —a magnificent silver-and-gold cave cat. Acting purely on instinct, she flees the palace and spends hours running freely through the forests of the Shadowlands, experiencing a sense of freedom, strength, and peace she has never known in her human form. Ash silently follows her the entire time in his wolven form , never trying to restrain her, only ensuring she remains safe until she reaches the gateway to the mortal realm. There, he gently coaxes her back by reminding her that she is safe, loved, and can always come home to him , teaching her how to willingly return to her human form. Back at the palace, Sera is devastated that she scratched Ash during her panic, but he dismisses it as insignificant compared to what she has endured. When Sera says she cannot talk about her trauma yet, Ash immediately respects her boundary , asking for nothing except that she hear one thing: nothing Kolis did has changed how he sees or loves her . He tells her she is still the same brave, strong Seraphena he fell in love with and that nothing—absolutely nothing—will ever change his love for her , ending the chapter on one of the most emotional and reassuring moments in the series.
CHAPTER 39
Chapter 39
The day after her panic attack and first transformation, Sera continues struggling with the emotional aftermath. Although she knows Ash still loves her exactly as before , she can't stop believing that what happened with Kolis has permanently changed how she sees herself , leaving her trapped in guilt and convinced she should have been stronger or handled everything better. While reflecting on her past training at the Mistresses of the Jade , she realizes that much of what happened with Kolis reopened wounds she never truly healed, forcing her to question why she dismisses her own suffering when she would never minimize someone else's. Later, Sera unexpectedly meets Thierran , the God of Dreams, who reveals that oneirou are irresistibly drawn to powerful dreams and emotions , explaining that he was accidentally pulled into Sera's nightmares and has been unable to sleep because of the intensity of her unresolved trauma. Thierran also reveals that he once entered Kolis's dreams , where Kolis endlessly relives finding and losing Sotoria , and confirms that his famous scars were the result of Kolis discovering this intrusion. Most importantly, Thierran explains that he can manipulate emotions and trap even an ancient Primal inside a waking nightmare , prompting Sera to quietly begin considering him as a potential weapon against Kolis in the future. When Ash arrives, the tension between them is obvious, but it isn't because his feelings have changed. Instead, both of them are struggling with the conversation they never truly finished after Sera's panic attack. Ash gently explains that he ordered the palace guards to remain silent about Sera's first transformation , not because he was ashamed of her, but because he knew gossip would only make her anxiety worse. Touched by his constant thoughtfulness, Sera realizes she wants to stop hiding and finally tell him everything she has been carrying inside. However, before she can begin, Attes unexpectedly arrives at the palace , interrupting the moment and delaying the conversation once again.
CHAPTER 40
Chapter 40
Still shaken by everything that happened after her panic attack, Sera spends the day struggling with her feelings and is joined first by Bele and Aios , who unknowingly help lift her spirits with their usual playful banter. After Bele leaves, Aios shares her own painful past, revealing that although Kolis never raped her, his captivity, manipulation, and abuse left emotional wounds that took decades to face , and she admits she also believed she had moved on long before realizing she hadn't. Encouraged by Aios's understanding, Sera finally opens up completely for the first time, describing everything Kolis did to her—his threats, feeding from her, using compulsion, displaying her like an object, taking away her freedom, and leaving her constantly afraid. Aios firmly tells Sera that trauma is not measured by comparing it to someone else's suffering and reminds her that what happened to her was abuse, even if it never reached the worst possible outcome. The conversation helps Sera realize that her deepest wound isn't simply what Kolis did, but the feeling of having all control stripped away , something she still hasn't forgiven herself for. During their discussion, Sera suddenly realizes why Ash hasn't needed to feed from her —he has secretly been feeding from Rhain instead to avoid triggering her trauma. Heartbroken, she confronts Rhain, who confirms it and explains that Ash once went through the exact same struggle after Kolis forced him to feed on innocent people, refusing to feed for months because of the trauma. Rhain makes Sera understand that just as Ash's trauma was never his fault, hers isn't either , and that the only way forward is to trust herself and let Ash help her heal instead of carrying the burden alone. Determined at last to have the conversation she has been avoiding, Sera goes to find Ash—but before she can reach him, she is suddenly overwhelmed by thousands of agonized screams that no one else can hear. She instinctively realizes they belong to newly dead souls arriving at the Pillars, while Ash has already been forcibly summoned there as the Primal of Death because there are far too many souls to judge . Understanding that this cannot be the result of a natural disaster, Sera follows the horrifying cries through shadowstepping and arrives in the mortal realm— directly in Lasania , where she discovers a nightmare unlike anything she has ever experienced.
The Realms Break
Lasania falls and Primal vengeance scars the world.
CHAPTER 41
Chapter 41
Sera arrives in Lasania to find the kingdom completely devastated— Carsodonia, Wayfair Palace, and nearly everyone she loved, including Ezra, Marisol, her mother, and the palace staff, have been massacred by Kyn's Cimmerian warriors . When Kyn appears, he reveals that Kolis has rejected Sera's peace offer and deliberately broke the eirini , unleashing this slaughter as his answer. Consumed by unimaginable grief and rage, Sera completely loses control, effortlessly destroying the Cimmerian army before chasing Embris , the Primal of Wisdom, Loyalty, and Duty, across the realms. She kills him by condemning him to the Final Death , permanently erasing his existence—the first time a Primal is truly destroyed. However, Embris's death unleashes catastrophic consequences across the realms, causing earthquakes, destruction, countless mortal deaths, and the birth of a vast crimson forest where he fell, proving that the death of a Primal permanently scars the world itself. Filled with nothing but vengeance, Sera opens another tear in the realms with a single destination in mind— Kolis .
CHAPTER 42
Chapter 42
Consumed by grief and vengeance, Sera storms Dalos , destroying Kolis's palace and slaughtering anyone who stands in her way, only to discover that Kolis deliberately fled , leaving the Ascended and Chosen behind as innocent victims. Horrified by what she has become, Sera realizes she has begun acting exactly as Kolis wanted—driven by rage instead of justice. Trying to make things right, she uses her powers to resurrect the villagers she accidentally killed after Embris's death, but Holland stops her from bringing back Ezra, Marisol, and the others, explaining that the balance of the realms demands another life for every life restored and that some souls, once released, cannot be brought back . Holland forces Sera to confront the devastating truth that her vengeance caused countless innocent deaths , and she finally accepts that she crossed the line between justice and wrath. Broken by guilt, Sera destroys most of the Blood Forest she created, though a small section remains untouched, suggesting the damage cannot be fully undone. Before she can completely collapse under the weight of her actions, Attes finds her and reminds her that Embris's released essence must be placed into a new vessel immediately , or the realms will suffer even greater destruction, forcing Sera to put aside her grief and travel with him to Mount Lotho .
CHAPTER 43
Chapter 43
At Mount Lotho , Sera successfully Ascends Penellaphe as the new Primal of Wisdom, Loyalty, and Duty , restoring the balance left by Embris's death, but the process leaves her dangerously weakened. Before she can recover, Kyn attacks the Court with the draken Thrax , only for the real threat to appear moments later— Kolis himself . Kolis demonstrates just how overwhelming his restored power has become, slaughtering multiple draken in seconds and forcing gods and mortals to throw themselves to their deaths with nothing more than his voice. He reveals that he personally murdered Sera's family , admits that everything—from the massacre at Wayfair to provoking her into killing Embris—was part of a carefully planned trap to push her into losing control and weakening herself. Exhausted, injured, and nearly out of eather, Sera is completely overpowered as Kolis vows to imprison her, make her suffer for years, kill Ash only after forcing them both to endure endless loss, and eventually use The Star to become the Primal of Ash and Blood . Just as Kolis is about to begin carrying out his plans, Ward—the first viktor—appears out of nowhere and decapitates Kolis with the Ancient-bone dagger , ending the chapter on a shocking cliffhanger.
CHAPTER 44
Chapter 44
After Ward's surprise attack , Kolis narrowly escapes, leaving behind a weakened but still terrifying reminder of how powerful he has become. Sera returns to the Shadowlands , where she learns that only two draken remain alive in Lotho after Kolis's assault, while Thierran reveals that he is now the last surviving oneirou . Even after everything she's endured, Sera immediately begins issuing orders to strengthen the kingdoms' defenses, accepting that there is no longer any possibility of peace with Kolis. However, once she is finally alone, the weight of everything she has done crashes down on her. Overwhelmed by guilt for the innocent lives lost because of her rage, she completely breaks, shifting into her nota form and losing control. Nektas refuses to leave her side, physically holding her through her transformation and gently reminding her that Ash is feeling every bit of her pain through their heart bond . Remaining in her nota form for days, Sera slowly comes to a painful realization: her greatest mistake wasn't being too much like Kolis—it was spending her life suppressing her instincts instead of learning when to trust them and when to listen to others . As she grieves her family, refuses food, and withdraws from everyone, Nektas stays with her every moment, while Reaver and Jadis quietly curl up beside her, offering silent comfort. The chapter ends when Ash finally returns from the Pillars , gently calling for Sera to come back to him.
CHAPTER 45
Chapter 45
After nearly two days at the Pillars , Ash finally returns and gently brings Sera back from her nota form , refusing to leave her side despite his own exhaustion. As he cares for her wounds and washes away the blood from her body, Sera breaks down over everything she has done, convinced she has become no different from Kolis after letting vengeance consume her. Instead of denying her actions, Ash acknowledges that she went too far , but insists that intent, remorse, and accountability are what separate her from Kolis , who kills without guilt or compassion. He reminds her that if he had truly lost her, he would have burned both realms to the ground , proving they are more alike than she believes. Through their painful conversation, Sera reaches an important realization: her greatest mistake wasn't being too ruthless, but trying to become someone she isn't. She had spent so long trying to suppress her instincts and become more like Eythos that she stopped trusting herself. Accepting that she is capable of both great compassion and terrible violence, Sera decides that moving forward she must embrace who she truly is , rather than fighting against her own nature, while Ash promises that he has always loved every part of her and that nothing will ever change that.
CHAPTER 46
Chapter 46
A day after returning from her nota form , Sera finally confronts the deepest wounds she has been refusing to acknowledge. She admits to herself—and then to Ash —that Kolis sexually assaulted her , accepting for the first time that she was a victim and that what happened to her cannot be minimized simply because "it could have been worse." She also reveals that, long before Kolis, she once attempted to take her own life , crushed by years of emotional neglect, Tavius's abuse, and the disturbing training she was forced to endure. Sera then tells Ash the full truth about Rhain's bargain , explaining that she agreed to let Kolis sleep beside her in exchange for Rhain's freedom, while also confessing the full extent of Kolis's abuse and how it continues to haunt her. Ash never blames her, reminding her that nothing done under coercion is true consent and that none of what happened was her fault. After finally releasing years of grief, rage, and trauma, Sera asks Ash to make one heartbreaking promise: if she ever loses control and seeks vengeance again, he must stop her by any means necessary—even if it means placing her in stasis. Though the promise devastates him, Ash swears the unbreakable Primal oath, choosing to protect Sera from herself if that day ever comes.
War Chosen
Sera and Ash gather the Primals and choose their final strategy.
CHAPTER 47
Chapter 47
Having accepted who she truly is, Sera and Ash decide to stop reacting to Kolis and take the offensive . They agree to summon all the Primals, force them to choose a side, and remove Kolis's allies before confronting him, while also trying to avoid unnecessary bloodshed by giving those willing to change a chance. Sera also proposes an important change to their original plan: instead of forcing Sotoria to be reborn to kill Kolis, they will permanently entomb Kolis and then release Sotoria's soul so she can finally find peace , sparing her another life of suffering. Ash fully supports this decision, choosing Sotoria's freedom over the certainty of Kolis's death. Later, Sera shares the plan with Attes , who is deeply moved and admits that he has always loved Sotoria , but never wanted to possess her—only for her to be happy and free. The chapter ends with Attes reminding them that the true way to win a war is not through endless battles, but by eliminating those responsible for creating it before countless innocent lives are lost , reinforcing that their strategy, though harsh, is far less brutal than allowing a full-scale war to unfold.
CHAPTER 48
Chapter 48
As Sera and Ash finalize their plans for war, Sera begins suspecting she may be pregnant after connecting weeks of unexplained nausea, exhaustion, missed menstruation, and the mysterious dream she had during stasis of two cave cat cubs , which she now believes may have been a vision. The possibility leaves her completely panicked, but she keeps it to herself, not wanting to burden Ash or distract everyone before their confrontation with the Primals. Despite her inner turmoil, Sera pushes her fears aside and prepares for what lies ahead. She and Ash present themselves as King and Queen , with Sera finally wearing her crown, symbolizing that she has fully embraced her role. Surrounded by their allies, Sera uses her newfound authority as the true Primal of Life to summon every remaining Primal—including Kyn and Veses—to the Shadowlands , setting the stage for the decisive confrontation that will determine the future of the realms.
CHAPTER 49
Chapter 49
Sera and Ash gather the remaining Primals in the Shadowlands and, despite her anxiety, Sera confidently speaks for herself instead of relying on Ash. She admits her own mistakes—especially killing Embris —but argues that Kolis has ruled through fear, manipulation, and cruelty , while she and Ash want to earn loyalty through trust rather than demand it. They reveal their vision for the future: they will rule together as equals , and more importantly, the Primals themselves will share in governing the realms instead of serving a single absolute ruler . While Maia and several others are moved by Sera's honesty, Veses and Kyn openly reject the offer and are dismissed as enemies, with Sera declaring that Kyn will die for his crimes. Phanos , however, refuses to side with either faction, choosing neutrality out of fear of Kolis's inevitable retaliation. The meeting ends with the Primals divided, making it clear that the coming war can no longer be avoided.
CHAPTER 50
Chapter 50
After the meeting, Attes, Bele, Penellaphe, and Maia officially swear their loyalty to Sera and Ash, strengthening their alliance. However, Keella reveals she cannot take the oath because the Fates forced her into a blood oath with Kolis years ago as the price for helping preserve Sotoria's soul , preventing her from ever using her Court against him. Accepting that her time has come, Keella announces she will soon pass into Arcadia , and asks Sera to Ascend Ione as her successor. Later, while everyone discusses war plans, Sera can no longer ignore her growing suspicion that she is pregnant. She secretly asks Aios to examine her, explaining her nausea, exhaustion, missed cycle, and the vision of two cubs she saw during stasis. After checking her with her Primal abilities, Aios confirms Sera's greatest suspicion—she is pregnant with twins , leaving Sera stunned as she realizes everything is about to change.
CHAPTER 51
Chapter 51
After Aios confirms Sera is pregnant with twins , Sera is overwhelmed by shock, fear, and uncertainty. She learns she is already around 10–12 weeks pregnant , meaning she conceived before her Ascension , likely after she and Ash first became intimate. Although Aios reminds her that she has the right to choose what happens with her pregnancy, Sera realizes that despite the timing, the coming war, and her fears about becoming a mother, she already loves the children growing inside her and knows she wants to keep them. Her biggest worry becomes how Ash will react , fearing the pregnancy could change everything between them. After taking time alone to process her emotions, Ash finds her in the underground pool after mistaking her silence for something far worse. Gathering all her courage, Sera finally tells him the life-changing truth: she is pregnant with their children.
CHAPTER 52
Chapter 52
Sera tells Ash that she is pregnant, and after the initial shock, he is overcome with emotion. Instead of fear or regret, Ash realizes how close he came to losing both Sera and their children during her Ascension, breaking down as he joyfully accepts that he is going to be a father. Sera admits she already loves the twins despite her fears, and Ash promises they will face everything together. They decide to keep the pregnancy secret , telling only those who must know until the war is over. They also discuss how the pregnancy may affect Sera's powers and the coming battle, agreeing to consult Kye for guidance. The chapter ends on a hopeful note as they dream about their future children, wonder if the twins will be boys or girls, and quietly celebrate the unexpected family they are about to build together despite the war ahead.
CHAPTER 53
Chapter 53
Sera and Ash decide to keep the pregnancy a secret , sharing the news only with Aios and Nektas , who are overjoyed and reassure Sera that she will be a wonderful mother despite her guilt over her past actions. Kye , the healer, examines Sera and confirms that both she and the twins are healthy , but warns that the third trimester will be the most dangerous , as the babies will draw heavily on her eather, leaving her much weaker and making injuries far more serious. He also advises Sera to avoid using her powers unnecessarily, stop shifting into her nota form later in the pregnancy, and eventually feed Ash from another donor to protect the babies. After the examination, Ash's protective instincts become overwhelming, and he suddenly announces that all of Sera's plans—including traveling and fighting—have changed because she is pregnant , setting up their first major disagreement since learning about the twins.
CHAPTER 54
Chapter 54
After learning about the pregnancy, Ash and Sera argue over whether she should continue fighting Kolis. Ash wants to keep her safe in the Shadowlands, but Sera convinces him that they can only defeat Kolis together , and they eventually reach a compromise: Sera will fight but promise not to take unnecessary risks , while Ash promises to trust her and always help pull her back if she loses control. They then travel to Keella's Court , where Keella privately reveals a crucial truth about the prophecy . She explains that Eythos originally intended for Sotoria to be reborn in Sera's bloodline , believing she—not Sera—was destined to become the Primal of Life and stop Kolis, but the Fates interfered , preventing that plan. Keella warns that Sotoria must be freed immediately after Kolis is entombed , or the prophecy could still unfold in a far more dangerous way. Finally, Ione is Ascended as the new Primal of Rebirth , and Keella peacefully passes into Arcadia , ending an ancient era and beginning a new one.
The Last Courts
The remaining Primals are forced to choose.
CHAPTER 55
Chapter 55
As Kolis begins awakening , Sera, Ash, and Nektas launch their attack on Veses's Court . Remembering their agreement, Sera lets Ash take the lead and avoids unnecessary risks because of the twins, even holding back during close combat. After fighting through Veses's guards and draken, they confront Veses in her chambers. Believing Sera won't kill another Primal after the disaster caused by Embris's death, Veses refuses to flee—only to discover that Sera plans to personally Ascend her replacement . Declaring herself the consequence of Veses's choices , Sera kills her by draining both her life and Primal essence , becoming the new holder of Veses's embers . Yet, in Veses's final moments, Sera unexpectedly feels pity, acknowledging that Kolis twisted Veses into the monster she became and quietly wishing her life had been different .
CHAPTER 56
Chapter 56
After Veses's death , Sera and Ash begin rebuilding the Callasta Isles , offering mercy to those willing to change while ordering proper burials for the thousands of victims hidden in Veses's mass graves. Although Sera knows killing Veses was necessary, she struggles with the emotional weight of it, realizing that Veses's refusal to admit Kolis's abuse mirrored how Sera once dismissed her own trauma , making her grieve not for Veses's choices but for the person she might have been. The next morning, Kolis awakens from stasis , forcing Sera and Ash to accelerate their plans. They travel to Phanos's Court , only to find it abandoned, with its fleet of nearly two hundred ships missing , suggesting something is terribly wrong. As Sera follows a growing sense of unrest through her Life powers, she shadowsteps with Ash into Vathi , where they arrive in the middle of a battle and discover that Kyn has launched an attack against his own brother, Attes.
CHAPTER 57
Chapter 57
Sera and Ash arrive in Vathi to find Kyn's forces attacking Attes's Court , and despite being pregnant, Sera insists on fighting beside Ash while honoring her promise to avoid reckless risks. Together they carve through the battlefield with remarkable coordination, but during the battle Sera suddenly feels Maia's death through her connection to the Primals , realizing she has fallen elsewhere. As Ash and Sera race to stop the duel between Attes and Kyn , they arrive too late. Knowing his brother cannot be spared, Attes fatally strikes Kyn but, before ending him, desperately begs Sera to Ascend Lailah immediately so the balance of the realms is preserved. Sera shadowsteps away to fulfill his request, leaving behind the heartbreaking sound of Attes's grief-stricken scream as he is forced to kill his own brother.
CHAPTER 58
Chapter 58
In the aftermath of Maia's death and Kyn's defeat , Sera sees the emotional toll the war has taken, especially on Attes , who quietly stays by the newly Ascended Lailah's side while grieving the loss of his twin. Preparing for the final confrontation, Sera summons a Fate , but to her surprise Holland answers instead. Their emotional reunion brings Sera the forgiveness she desperately sought for her actions in Lasania , reminding her that he still cares for her like a daughter. Sera and Ash ask Holland to arrange a false peace meeting with Kolis , intending to lure him into a trap by claiming Sera is willing to trade Sotoria's soul for a truce. Before leaving, Holland confirms that some Fates may truly want the Ancients to awaken , believing it could reset the realms, but he also reassures Sera that she will never be corrupted by power because she has never desired it . Finally, Holland reveals one last shocking truth: Eythos and Mycella are together in Arcadia , because a Fate secretly saved Mycella's soul from Final Death , though doing so likely cost that Fate their own existence.
CHAPTER 59
Chapter 59
While waiting for Holland to return with Kolis's response, Sera checks on Attes , who is quietly grieving beside Lailah . He admits that although Kyn had become a monster, the brother he remembers is the one who comforted him after the death of his children, making killing him an unbearable burden. He also reveals that if Sotoria is reborn , he still plans to enter stasis , believing she deserves a happy life free from the broken man he has become, even though he still loves her. Later, Sera finds Ash in the throne room, where they share a tender conversation about their future and their children. Ash imagines them raising the twins together, watching them grow, and living the peaceful life they have always wanted once Kolis is defeated , giving Sera hope before the final confrontation. Though Sera admits she fears losing the people she loves and failing , Ash promises they will defeat Kolis, free Sotoria, and build that future together , strengthening their resolve for the battle ahead.
CHAPTER 60
Chapter 60
Holland returns with Kolis's answer: he has agreed to meet at a ruined Sun Temple in the Bonelands , but everyone knows he will arrive with an army, so Ash and the others prepare an elaborate trap with hidden forces, draken, archers, and the Ancient-bone chains needed to entomb him. During the strategy meeting, Sera proves her growth as a leader by recognizing important risks, such as keeping Saion , Lailah , Penellaphe , and Ione away from the battlefield because their recent or future Ascensions would leave them dangerously vulnerable. Despite the careful planning, everyone understands that the coming battle could cost them everything. Before leaving for the Bonelands, Sera spends precious time with Reaver and Jadis , while she and Ash quietly cherish one last peaceful evening together, fully aware that if they fail tomorrow, they could lose their children, each other, and the future they dream of .
Born of Blood and Ash
The Bonelands, Kolis and the future prophecy come together.
CHAPTER 61
Chapter 61
The long-awaited final battle begins in the Bonelands as Kolis betrays the agreement and attacks with ceeren, Revenants, dakkais, gods, draken, and Phanos's forces . While Ash and Sera hold their ground, Kolis deliberately provokes Ash by reminding him of what he did to Sera, nearly making him lose control before Sera calms him. The battle quickly turns disastrous— Nektas is badly wounded , the draken clash in the skies, Crolee is killed , and Kars sacrifices himself to save Attes . As thousands more enemy soldiers pour onto the battlefield, Sera realizes they are losing and that everyone she loves—including Ash, their unborn twins, and their allies —could die. In that desperate moment, she finally understands why she was drawn to the Bonelands . Calling upon her full power as the true Primal of Life , Sera channels all her grief, rage, and hope into the land itself, raising the ancient fallen gods, dragons, and forgotten warriors from the Bonelands to fight once more , ending the chapter with an undead army answering her call: "Meyaah Liessa."
CHAPTER 62
Chapter 62
Sera's army of ancient bones turns the tide of the battle, cutting through Kolis's forces while she and Ash pursue Kolis into the ruined Temple. After fighting through waves of gods, they finally confront him, but Kolis reveals he has discovered Sera is pregnant and vows to kill or steal their unborn children, driving Ash into a furious battle against him. During the chaos, Phanos is killed by Attes , removing Kolis's last Primal ally, while Thierran traps Kolis inside his worst nightmare, giving Sera the opening to overwhelm him with her power. Ash, Sera, and Attes then take Kolis to Oak Ambler , bind him with the Ancient-bone chains , and carry out the long-awaited entombment ritual. Before the final blow, Sera chooses to let Ash drive the spear through Kolis's heart, knowing Kolis had hurt Ash just as deeply as he had hurt her. As Kolis is finally entombed, his immense essence is sealed within the prison, and for the first time, Sera feels the true Primal of Death's presence disappear , allowing her to take what feels like her first real breath of freedom .
CHAPTER 63
Chapter 63
Although Kolis has been successfully entombed , Sera immediately senses something is wrong and insists on freeing Sotoria without delay. However, when they reach The Star's hiding place, they discover it has been stolen by the Fates , who reveal that the prophecy cannot be stopped so easily . Aydun explains that Sotoria has always been reborn in the Mierel bloodline as the second daughter , and because Sera is carrying twin sons , Sotoria will one day be reborn through their descendants . He warns that she is destined to become the Primal of Blood and Bone , awakening the Ancients and bringing destruction, but also confirms she will begin life as a mortal and a baby Primal , leaving hope that the future can still be changed. Despite this devastating revelation, Sera and Ash refuse to sacrifice their unborn sons or any future child to prevent the prophecy. Instead, Sera vows they will find another way—search for Callum and The Star , ensure Kolis remains imprisoned , and, if the prophecy ever comes to pass, trust that Sotoria's will—not her power—will decide the future , because no one born of Sera's bloodline will hunger for power the way Kolis did.
CHAPTER 64
Chapter 64
Two months after Kolis's entombment , the realms are finally at peace and preparations are underway for a celebration honoring both their victory and those they lost. Sera is visibly progressing in her pregnancy with the twin boys , while she and Ash continue healing emotionally together—most importantly, Sera overcomes much of her trauma surrounding Ash feeding from her , reclaiming an act that Kolis had once twisted into abuse. After Ash drinks from her for the first time since her Ascension, they discover something extraordinary: their hearts begin beating in perfect synchronization , suggesting that their bond as true heartmates has deepened into something entirely new after her awakening. Though neither fully understands what it means yet, they realize this new connection is significant and will likely reveal itself in time. The chapter closes on a peaceful, hopeful note, with Ash and Sera cherishing the life they've fought so hard to build together before joining the celebration of their hard-won victory.
CHAPTER 65
Chapter 65
Two months after the war , the Shadowlands hold a celebration to honor both their victory and those they lost, while Sera and Ash quietly continue preparing for the future. Although peace has returned, Callum, The Star, and the remaining loyalists to Kolis are still missing , reminding everyone that their work isn't over. During the celebration, Attes decides to enter stasis the following day , believing Lailah and Vathi are finally ready without him, and Sera emotionally accepts that he needs time to heal from everything he has endured. Meanwhile, Sera asks Ward to become Sotoria's future viktor if she is ever reborn, not to kill her, but to protect, train, and prepare her against Kolis , trusting that Sotoria's choices—not prophecy alone—will determine the future. The novel ends with Sera reflecting that while Sotoria will one day return as the Queen of Flesh and Fire, the Primal of Blood and Ash , prophecy is not destiny . She believes that love, free will, and the choices they make can still change the future , and until that day comes, she and Ash will cherish every moment they have together.
BONUS CHAPTER
Bonus Chapter – The One Who Is Blessed
Set near the end of Sera's pregnancy , this bonus chapter is told from Ash's perspective and focuses on the quiet happiness they finally earned after the war. Ash is deeply in love with both Sera and their unborn twin sons , though beneath his joy he constantly worries about her health as she nears childbirth. The chapter shows how far Sera has come in healing from her trauma, how naturally they support one another, and how excited they are about becoming parents. They also discuss their future—splitting their time between the Shadowlands and Dalos , rebuilding the realms, and missing Attes while trusting he will one day return from stasis. The chapter ends on a warm, intimate note as Ash finally takes Sera to the hidden room containing all of his paintings , something he had wanted to share with her for months, highlighting the peaceful life and future they fought so hard to create together.
EPILOGUE
Epilogue – The Star
The epilogue reveals that Callum survived and wandered the realms for thousands of years , secretly carrying The Star containing Sotoria's soul , waiting for the right moment. Eventually, he entrusts The Star to the Crimson Queen (Isbeth) , ensuring the prophecy continues instead of ending. The story then leaps far into the future, connecting directly to From Blood and Ash , confirming that Poppy (the second daughter with blood of ash and ice) is the prophesied child. Her birth awakens Kolis , her Ascension releases him and the Ancients , and the devastation foretold in the prophecy begins as the realms are consumed by destruction. However, the final revelation changes everything: despite all the prophecies and countless events spanning millennia, the true force that has shaped every choice—from Sera, Ash, Sotoria, Attes, and Kolis to Poppy—is love . The Fates conclude that love is stronger than destiny itself , capable of breaking the threads of fate and becoming the only hope left to save the realms .
